Twisted ever way, what answer can I give, Am I to risk my life to win the chance to live? Can I betray the man who once inspired my voice? Do we become his prey? Do I have any choice? He kills without a thought, he murders all that's good, I know I can't refuse, and yet I wish I could, Oh God if I agree, what horrors wait for me, in this, The Phantom's Opera?
@WhiteTiger95011 жыл бұрын
I think the core of the phantom's story is that he has gone his whole life without love. Even his own mother could not bear to look at him, his first article of clothing, a mask... Growing up in a freakshow, beaten and jeered at, regarded as a murderer for finally gaining his freedom, being taken to live out the rest of his days in the secret passages of the opera house... Then finally when he falls in love with Christine, having her reject him for Raul? Is it any wonder he finally snapped?

It's always bothered me that Raoul uses Christine as bait. I get that he wants to capture the Phantom, but it endangers her. Plus, she begs him not to do this to her, but he still makes her. In the end, it's his fault that he gets her. It's one reason why I'm not a big Raoul fan...

Finally I found my favourite song in the all movie. In my opinion 2:32 at 3:19 is a magical moment where we can see all emotion of Christine.

Why would you plan against the Phantom in his own Opera House?
@filler201311 жыл бұрын
He's certainly sympathetic, but he's still the villain. He chooses to do all of the wicked things he does. It is almost definite that he had a terrible upbringing (and poetic justice recognizes this by letting him get away in the end), but be careful of the reasoning that bases a person's actions solely on his circumstances; with that reasoning, no act at all can be considered evil, for all that would be necessary are the right circumstances to make it excusable.

(continued response) Erick (the phantom) accomplished much and was an adult when he started living in the opera house. But more importantly, the story should be seen from not only from his point of view but also from Raoul's and Christine's as well as the novel in detail talks about Raoul's feelings and thoughts as well as Christine's. Erik is to be pitied but what he has done cannot be justified for no matter how you say it, it was wrong.

Unrequited Love: Its the feeling of being completely, hopelessly, desperately in love with someone, all the while knowing that your feelings will never reach them. Hence, the Phantom's LOVE for Christine.

Ok but i still dont get what their plan was. Was it to lure the Phantom by having Christine perform in Don Juan and then arrest him on stage?? If that was the plan then why when he appeared on stage they let him finish the song. I just dont get it...
@flo4bridgeman11 жыл бұрын
remember that the phantom is the same age as Madame Giry (Meg's Mother) so it is very creepy how the phantom has an obsession with someone much younger than him. Also, Raoul and Christine were childhood sweethearts and are actually in love.
@mcr_yeah11 жыл бұрын
Not to disagree with you but you should read the novel when you get a chance if you haven't yet because Madam Giry isn't the one who brings him to the opera house. The movie musical is based on (as in not the same as) the musical The Phantom Of The Opera which is based on (as in also not the same as) the novel written by Gaston Leroux.

That is an amazingly good point! I've always maintained that Erik was a victim, not evil. But that point about his understanding of people coming from Opera- I mean, no wonder he acted the way he did. All he's seen of others is negativity and abuse, and then opera. Whilst opera is awesome, the storylines can be a little bizarre. :) I'm going to use that point next time someone tells me he's evil! :D Thanks! :)

My opinion, curious of your thoughts: The Phantom isn’t the villain, but a victim throughout. He was abused horribly as a child for the way he was born, and then forced to live the rest of his life in the sewers after being “rescued” by Giry. Not only that, but he had no contact with other people, so his only understanding of them came from opera. What a great example to go by! Is it his fault that his understanding of love is twisted?

@Pinkyyyy1311 жыл бұрын
It's not really like we ignore that fact, we can just understand why the Phantom did all that. If you think about from the Phantom's perspective, would you really want the person you love so much to be with someone else. To leave you to go with someone else just because you are deformed. If I were the Phantom, I'd probaly go mad with jealousy like he did. We can really sympathise with the Phantom, despite all that he has done.

I think if the phantom was in Raoul's place, he would have dragged her off to a completely different country to another opera house so the creepy stalker couldn't get her. Don't care if he's caught or not. Oh, you have to give up the only family you've known since? Sorry, you're mine. But you'll be safe, and you still get to sing

The reason that there's very little emotion is that the producers clearly cared more about the song sounding perfect, and besides, the songs themselves convey a lot of emotion, so it's not that terrible...

i hate to say this, but an explaination is no excuse... as a psych major I c alot of victims who end up being the abuser in multiple ways; John Wayne Gacy was sexually abused- but that doesn't excuse what he did. The Phantom was abused and scorned by society; it's sad and wrong- but the fact is what he did was still wrong. And in a logical perspective: had Christine chose the Phantom would she have been able to live a normal life? Nope :-/
