Hope this helps you out! BONUS POINT: I just realised I never mentioned. Desirability can upgrade markets and water carriers so you get extra walkers. Good Morning GamerZakh, just a quick question again regarding the walkers. I'm playing the Timna level now, and i'm noticing with the 9x9 city blocks, my bazaar walker, walks two sides of the block, then turns around and walks back the same way she came, rather than following the complete circuit. Does this mean the bazaar is in the wrong spot? Or would it be worth to improve the desirability around the market to have that additional walker to cover more ground?

Wasn't there a mechanic to raise your salary or something? You could bank over a thriving city in order to amass the fortune. Same with city donations, to avoid bankruptcy or maybe a flash development, you could dump your fortune and recover it later when the city was fully developed.

I love your Palatial Estate block. It's so elegant and beautiful. It's easy in a game like this to get into the nitty gritty of optimization and maximizing profit etc., to the point of forgetting that Pharaoh is a very aesthetically pleasing game that allows you to build beautiful things.

Tip number 11: you don't actually need the two houses in the industrial areas if you plan the road layout cleverly. A house is considered connected to a road if it's at least one tile away from the road. It means that you can build a housing district/loop with some houses on the outside of the road, then build an industry loop that passes one tile away from those houses, and the industries will have worker access. You can then use the one tile gap between the industrial road and the houses to place parks, statues and shrines to mitigate the negative impact on desirability. You loose some industrial real estate along the road that passes near the houses as you can build on only one side, but don't have any housing coverage issue and you don't need medical buildings in the industrial zones.

Played this a lot years ago as and I always tried to keep my housing blocks with just enough structural, goods and health coverage for the desired grade. Housing near work camps, industries etc doesn't need to up graded too far. Industries, granaries and storage yards always got their own dedicated safety inspectors and were positioned close enough to there needed workers. Housing areas that needed to evolve to higher status ratings got their own separate blocks with the required supporting structures plus they got temples. The lower class neighborhood's got shrines. As noted one key to keep housing from devolving is beautification. If you have a bank of industries and one of the kingdoms gods is oriented towards craftsmen a row if shrines alternating between that God and a house God helps alot.

Great video, I was playing Pharaoh for so many years, yet I learned a lot of new stuff. What amazed me is that 2 houses are enough for the buildings to get workers and that Storage Yards can transfer items without road connection. It will be so much easier playing right now and I cannot wait applying your tricks into my games. Thank you!

An easy way to avoid aging issues : when it becomes a problem, supress every water supply, let the houses revert to crude huts. Put work priority on infrastructures (to avoid fire and calapses in your city , then give back water. You will get a whole new population.Your economy will take a blow, but by the time you have aging issues, you should be able to take it.
@ruffusgoodman4137
@ruffusgoodman4137 Жыл бұрын
I'd mix both in order to avoid economic hit: - sabotage current housing - build new houses, usually involving developing a new industry or urbanizing further areas or areas across the Nile Also: Instead of only prioritizing employment, I'd shut down some industries, usually the ones that went way over my storage capacity (generally brick industry or paper)

I like the way you explain stuff and the way you carry yourself, not over excited or loud. As someone already mentioned it, it's ASMR 👍 I like the tip about Storage Yard and Granary tip, this is so helpful because sometimes I get difficulties with getting everything into the Granary and then the flood comes and everything drowns, this is a good tip, leaving a huge thumbs up 👍👍👍 Btw, when I was young, I used to place all the houses along the pre-made road we get in the beginning of the mission and got surprised why my mines/quarries far away from the city didn't get any workers. 😂😂😂 But then again, I came to Pharaoh from Zeus and it didn't matter there. In fact, it's just recently that I found out you actually should build blocks of houses. 😉

I bought the game when it came out and was a huge fan right away. I just started playing again after a 6 year break. I had continuosly on and off phases. What I learned from this video: 1) can place water pump next to wet farmland, 2) that malaria only exists on marshland maps and I don't need apothecary if not... and 3) about the aging population. I just finished a map where I had this issue, I had no space to create new housing, and eventually kept on loosing workers, I closed one industry after another (as I could afford) and it just would not cover... now I know why. But if the map is small and expansion is not an option, do you just tear down housing and build new? I also didn't know about all the walker (dancer) glitches!! I learned from another video of yours about the entertainment cluster, just booth next to booth somewhere to get up the numbers, it worked! Lover your channel, but so far I've only been playing Pharaoh. Not sure if I'll get the new one now, I like the graphics of the original game. I should finish this one first. I do have caesar and zeus but it didn't fascinate me enough to really place those yet. I don't know what it is about Pharaoh! LOL I love everything about this game (except the military stuff)

When I was young, I didn't pay attention to many details, it was just a fun game for Ancient Egypt lovers like myself. But now that you mentioned the census graph, I think it's PERFECTLY made. AMAZING! 😱 Do you have any idea what to do with the hippos attacking reed gatherers? When there are snakes/hyenas etc., I normally get away with that by building walls around them and it rather works. But of course, you can't do that on marshes.

Thanks for the tips! My question is in regards to distribution as I sometimes struggle to find a balance. Let's say I want pottery distributed to 2 different housing blocks. And I have 3 storage yards: SY1 supplies Housing Block 1, SY2 is centralized, where the potters work. And SY3 supplies housing Block 2. My goal is to have the the pottery FIRST gather to SY2 (the central point), and then have the different storage yards from Housing Blocks 1 and 2 pull from that centralized location...what should I set my storage yards to? My assumption would be to set SY2 (centralized) to Fill 3/4 or something, the idea being that the potters will first try to FILL that storage yard upon completing their pottery, and also to have SY1 and SY3 set to Get 1/2, so they will send THEIR storage people to SY2 to obtain the pottery and bring it back. The problem I seem to face is that, although this makes sense to me in theory, the pottery stores will tend to deliver their pottery NOT to SY2, but to SY1 or SY3, implying that the "get 1/2 or 2/3" takes priority over the "fill 1/2 or 2/3" that the centralized location has. Any advice?

@maxzmaggi
@maxzmaggi 6 жыл бұрын
I think in-game help states 2 tiles for this. However, sometimes I find that even the ditch is touching the farm, the status could still be 'not irrigated'. This can be solved by adding more ditches. (I always right click and check after irrigating) Another point worth adding to Zakh's explanation is that the water lift on a floodplain need to be connected to the river via irrigation ditch in order to be able to bring in water to the land.
@ruffusgoodman4137
@ruffusgoodman4137 Жыл бұрын
@@maxzmaggi Some ditches would glitch to get water flowing. I don't know why, but I think the game won't allow a ditch on marshes going too far from the current bank. So, better watch out how the flooding is going, at least try to prioritize irrigation the closest to the water as possible.

I've been having problems on this level because, oddly, I feel like no matter how much linen, wood, and papyrus I export that I am not making enough money. Your block designs are wayyyy more efficient than mine though, so I am gonna take these tips to heart!
@GamerZakh
@GamerZakh 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah a slightly more efficient block can go a long way. You can make things work with really crazy blocks and challenges but usually just some nice rectangles at the right size will do. Money can be solved by taxing high level housing too, so you can try get more of those.

Do you start on the estate block early in this level considering limited space? Sorry to bombard you; there aren't many people to ask advice from for this game anymore! I really loved the video!
@GamerZakh
@GamerZakh 6 жыл бұрын
Hey no problem! If you want more people to ask for help from we got a pretty solid city-building community over on the discord. In terms of starting the estate block, it doesn't really matter too much when you start it because the big effort is getting all the services and resources to it to evolve the houses. If you have the employees, resources, and a few thousand Db in the bank, you can get estates in like 5 minutes. You should have a place in mind for the estate block from the start of the map though so you can leave that space empty.

The bazaar lady will take food out of the storage yard when set to import (and maybe export aswell). If you're growing figs for example and you can import them, chose import:0 so you will not actually import them. The figs will be brought to the storage yard and the bazaar lady goes and collects them from there so you don't need a granary. Also what you can do to get more young people in the city. This has happened to me. A block ran out of some basic goods like pottery then many people left, a short time later it was available again, and many new immigrants came to the city. I no longer had a workers problem. You can do this deliberately if you can afford it.

I remember reading on some forums that you can just destroy some houses in your housing blocks, force all those people out, and rebuild the houses. Or to devolve the houses by limiting resources, then have them sell it again so thing build right back up. Just have to make sure that fire, police ect have higher priority so your city doesn't burn down while new people move in. Have you tried this method? I always dread the year end when all the sudden everyone gets a year older and I am now missing 500+ workers.

I always make my housing area a straight line and i count my houses so that all walkers will go through my houses. When the population is not enough, then another straight line... at the end my city looks like bunch of branches coming out from the center... looks great though and just thinking about that made me want to play again...

I'll bet that the dancer issue could be related to the difference between those two areas. What I see in the statistics overview is a difference of road type, and the road type close at hand is plaza. Doesn't apply for both but it stood out. This requires some experimentation I gather. Another thing to consider, which doesn't explain the glitch but does aggravate it, is that you have all these offshoot and unconnected road types to improve efficiency and limit exposure to better housing. It likely exasperates the problem of narrowing the spawning areas.

About bazards. If you "upgrade" it by building statues, temples, plazas, gardens etc. around it, there will automatically be not one, but 2 green-dressed delivery ladies. So, no need to build 2 or 3 bazards for a housing block, an upgraded one is enough. Also, you can separate entirely your housing blocks from the industry areas with the roadblocks. Just make a road 2 tiles away from a row of houses, with gardens in between, and the citizens looking for workforce will still do their job. So that you dont need even one intersection, and have a total hermetic loop for the housing areas.

On the last tip, I found that periodically letting a specific block devolve to say ordinary cottage then letting it evolve again solves the problem, because it kicks out the old people and lets new people back in lol. You have to do it in stages and one block at a time, or the city will run into catastrophic worker shortages. Also important to be precise and have a controlled devolution and have resources to backup any mishaps.

Hey there, I already started many tries (even on very low difficulty) with different types of 'theroetical' stablized housing blocks. I built all the necessarily needed service buildings like a lot of them I also made sure to have like up to three garneries filled with different food types and made sure the Bazar(s) only buy like grain to prepare the next step but houses start evolving anyways and soon I can't supply enough goods to keep it stablized so ppl start leaving and suddenly I don't have an unemployment of about 3-8% no I'm short of hundreds of workforces. Is there a tip or strategy you can suggest for that case? Greetings.

One of the tricks I've learned in the scenarios that take longer (or that I deliberately do longer) is to flush out some of my citizens and replace the old housing with new housing. Yeah, it is wasteful but if you need the workers, are strained for resources or at another similar status, it can help long-term getting the employees needed. Another trick is to carefully manage the more limited resources, to get the most out of them.

You don't need to store food in the Storage Yard. Set the SY to 1/4, when the harvest comes in, quickly toggle to 1/2, wait a moment, and set back to 1/4. The harvest walkers will wait until the Granaries have capacity and just head there.

You can easly have just 2 storage yards per block, or even 2 blocks if they`r rather close to each other. One for pott and linen, other one for beer and papyrus. Just make sure to order storage yard to get 1/4 of linen/papyrus, so that the cart pusher will have enough of time to deliver the resources, rather than constantly getting those. 3 trips per each storage yard is just fine! Cheers

Thanks for the very useful video. I have a couple of questions if you have time. AT 11:21 you say "market lady can only take from the granary". I don't understand this, I thought market ladies can collect food from Storage Yards also? At 13:15 you say "unlike Storage Yards, which DON'T need a road connection, Granaries Do". I don't understand this either. If I place a SY without a road it prompts me to build a road. Many thanks.

the speed start where you place (l do a 2 x 2 block) houses where you plan to set up industries first (while on pause), then a 2 x 2 block in each of the "estates" you plan to build, then lay out all the housing. press go. The peasants move into each house that was placed, in the order it was placed, no matter where on the map you placed them, they don't all rush to the closest. That way you don't get caught short with "not enough workers near" issues and get to build a large population fast. and slums, lots of slums..

This is probably a dumb idea but I'm new to the game - could you solve the aging problem by destroying old housing blocks and rebuilding them? For example set bazaars to not buy anything, let houses run out of supplies, banish the residents and rebuild them, and set bazaars to work again. Very useful video btw.

It's an odd thing that took me years to discover. If you set a resource in a storage yarg to 'getting', they will send out a cart pusher to get that resource from another storage yard that has that resource and is set to 'accepting'. Even if those two storage yards aren't connected by road, the cart pusher can just walk off road. It doesn't work for granaries, just storage yards.

Fun facts: 1. Bazaar buyers can actually get food from storage yards if you are importing that food type at the same time. 2. The R key can rotate Temple Complexes too. Edit: I have a nice idea for a video. Review other players' cities, give them a rating, maybe compare them to your own. It would be fun to watch. You can find community uploads here pharaoh.heavengames.com/downloads/lister.php?category=cities

Iirc, irrigation ditches also affect farms within two tiles, so they don't actually have to touch the farms either. Also, Water Lifts on flood plains require Irrigation Ditches connected to them or otherwise they don't bring water over land unless the plains are flooded.
