nope not at all. Its the theory and the practice ends of a same coin. although pharmacists do a much wider scope and play a much bigger role. Pharmacology is one of the majors in pharmacy school so its a subset which goes into deeper specialisation.

Here in Argentina the degree of Pharmacy has a lot of both. First two years are heavily about chemistry, organic, inorganic, analytical, physics, math's, physical chemistry but also biology, anatomy, physiology etc. Then the last two and half years it´s a lot about pharmaceuticals both for industry and hospitals, like pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical chemistry, toxicology, pharmacology, clinical pharmacology, pharmaceutics etc. I guess we are trained to work either as scientists or as pharmacist to advice patients but it depends of course on the grades and opportunities in the labor market. There´s also the chemistry career which is mostly about science and research but it doesn´t focus on pharmacology although they can certainly work in the pharmaceutical industry too but not in pharmacies or hospitals.

@@abidaferdous7913 only medical doctor can prescribe and have right to treating the patients. Pharmacist are only giving the drugs ,which are prescribed from doctor, to patients. They are not doctor they cant treat patients or prescribe medicine.

A bit misleading as usual when dealing with this topic. A pharmacist by training can develop a professional career in pharmacology. We could say Pharmacy is an academic figure (a degree) whereas pharmacology is more of a professional activity.

To be qualified personnel as a pharmacist u must deals with pharmacy study(in which u will work in many sector such in preparation of medicine,formular,administer patient in taking medicine,order of medicine,checking and inspection of medicine and stored area (etc). But for pharmacologist u will study as specialist on pharmacologically formula,expermenting on medicine but u will not be able to participate directly in the health issues such as giving information on how to take medicine, monitoring of patient,etc In short to be pharmacist as pharmaceutical personnel u will get access to face health issues directly but for pharmacologist who study pharmacology will be on single purpose of developing medicine and other therapeutical treatment technique developing For me my best choice was pharmacy.I can work on health facilities, pharmaceutical industry,health goverment sectors, and etc advantage of pharmaceutical u can get accces to known patient care,preparation,formulating Pharmaceutical they deals with patient and also can assist in preparation of medicine,formulating of medicine,research in plant medicine by studying pharmacognosy,to known how to administer for animals and people.

Just to make it clear ... Pharmacology is essentially a pharmaceutical science ... To specialize in it, the pharmacy must be studied first .... I am really surprised when I see this ignorance of the difference between pharmaceutical science and pharmacology..... The bottom line is that they are one.

In Quebec, you can do a master to work as a pharmacist in hospitals or to specialise in a field or disease. You can also do a master in research and a PhD after that (ex: pharmacology). There are also career opportunities in various government agencies, the pharmaceutical industry and related fields. a lot of possibilities

I'm a clinical pharmacologist. I know your comment is old but for anyone else interested the main courses of study would be biophysics, biochemistry, or just plain biology with a doctoral course in pharmacology. Pharmaceutical science, like the person above me mentioned, is mainly for pharmacists and not pharmacologists.
