As for Metoclopramide, it is also said to block 5HT3 receptors to some degree (antagonist). Interestingly, the mentioned increased gastrointestinal motility is initiated through the stimulation of 5HT4 receptors (agonist), which lead to a release of acetylcholine. Very good video, thank you!

The cause of motion sickness is not limited solely to the inner ear. It's because the different organs which we use to determine our position in space (inner ear, eye and cerebellum) sometimes send incompatible information to higher centers, resulting in nausea. That's why sitting in the front of the vehicle helps with motion sickness - because then we see the road moving in front of us, which is more in line what our vestibule and cerebellum pick up on.

Obey Jesus Christ or you will go to hell, turn to the Lord before its too late, if you don’t REPENT OF YOUR SINS then you will likewise perish in hell. All liars, fornicators, adulterers, idolaters, blasphemers, whoremongers, thieves, murderers, homosexuals, effeminate, etc, will not inherit the kingdom of God. Once you turn to the Lord, read the new testament in the bible, the gospels, to develop a relationship with God. God bless you all. Turn to Jesus, repent or perish, turn or burn.

Fascinating. Our own bodies produce an effective anti-emetic, from one of those glands in the neck area. You can test it out by taking little sips of something that really "doesn't agree with you". When your body tells you either to stop or to throw up, ignore it and carry on. You'll feel something flow into the back of your throat which will quell your need to vomit. It has quite a distinctive taste, which I can't really describe, but pleasant. I understand it's a very functional thing for other species, though it rarely comes into play for us. Have a bucket handy if you try this experiment.

in the vomiting center, there are other several receptors like serotonin receptor cause if the vagus nerve transiting the serotonin signals it makes sense that it is only can attach to serotonin receptors but overall this was an amazing video thanks so much for your hard work

Hi Armando; amazing video thank you. I am an advanced practice paramedic in the UK currently doing a prescribing course and this was really helpful. Maybe a little more info on the pharmacokinetics e.g. absorption, elimination and half life etc would have been extra amazing too...although I get that this is not where you were pitching this. Thanks and keep them coming.

You probably should've mentioned this small detail regarding the medulla oblangata since it's pretty high yield: not only does it contain the vomiting center, it is also the reason why alligators are ornery (despite what mama says).

coming from an emetophobe, I can say with confidence that vomiting is, in fact, voluntary. I've been motion sick millions of times, have had food poisoning and norovirus amongst other forms of gastritis... as well as a concussion..and haven't puked since 2005 ;) xo
