Okay let me just preface this by saying you are possibly on of the most interesting fish keepers to watch due to your incredible video quality and editing skills. I hardly ever subscribe to things but I subscribed to you man. Keep it up, love the aesthetics of your videos and its a great tank, just bought it myself for my guppy fry to hang out in!

I have had 2 Marineland Portrait tanks for 2 years, and even have a very old modified System 2 Hood. This is a super review on this tank! One can actually put 5 small fish in this tank since the max. on the adjustable filter is up to 85 GPH, which is a lot more than the previous System 3 or 5 Gallon Marineland Hex, (the old ones actually used Z also, and were built to be more like a septic tank). There are future problems, and unlike Old Eclipse parts, Marineland does NOT stock any replacement parts. No more than 5 fish since the Cube design does not have enough surface area, as a rectangular shape does, allowing more oxygen on the surface. Still, the Marineland Portrait 5 Gallon is overall a fantastic aquarium for the money.

you might wanna consider adding botanical then open the lid add a cattapa extract or boil talisay leaves... there are also concentrated cattapa extract available with turmeric which is good for your betta fish immune system

My favorite fancy 5 gallon for sure! The Aqueon Planted Clip On Light is a great replacement for the light it comes with if you want to grow more than anubias, java fern, etc. The light it comes with works fine if you're just growing low light plants, but with the replacement light I'm growing high light plants successfully.
@Pharmaquatics3 жыл бұрын
agreed - ive only had success with anubias on the stock light and even then, it never propagated much

I set it to at around 78 degrees! I would recommend you just play with the dial for a bit until you see the tank itself stay at a constant 78-80 degrees. Enjoy your tank!

@@Pharmaquatics iono about that.. the back cover hides the heater* & filtration system. Seeing these things in the tank takes away from the aesthetics. I'd keep it in there lol
@Pharmaquatics4 жыл бұрын
Majin Boob ehh gotta weigh out the cons of decreased aesthetic vs the benefit of more swimming space for the fish
@snowpuppies14 жыл бұрын
@@5cmpersecond193 if you plant the tank up correctly, you can hide most if not all of that, esp if u use a sponge filter.

With the ceramic media bag, do you take it out and clean it? Or would that destroy all the bacteria. Would I just take out the floss and replace that? Leaving everything else

I'm looking into this tank as a beginner and was wondering if I could just use sponges in the back instead of the ceramic rings? I want to use a combo of filter floss and sponge. Thanks for all the advice!

you probably can get away with it depending on how you stock the tank, i just prefer rings because you can get a lot for cheap! all preference

great video idea, i will definitely do that! in the mean time here's some tips: 30% water change every 2 weeks, gravel vacuum once every 1-3 weeks depending on how much you feed your fish, scrub algae off the walls as needed and that's about it!

I literally just gutted the filtration system with a razor blade, the design of it is so flawed and I’ve lost so many guppy fry and shrimp in the back of that thing. It’s held by silicone so a razor blade will too. I used a more than capable hang on the back filter and a LED lamp and it looks ten folds better than what came in the box.
