This is from the podcast "OtherTone w/ Pharrell". Pharrell might be a voice we've been missing in the culture during times of introspection. A lot of ground is covered here.

The real problem with AI and the internet in general is that it's all being used in service of advertising. Companies will invest billions of dollars into getting a computer to know everything about to in order to target ads to you. And the social media apps make all their money from ads so their algorithms are tailored to get you to engage with them for every single waking moment. And the two things that drive the most engagement are anger and shock. When you look at it through this lens, it makes sense that social media is causing mental illnesses in people because people's health was never the focus, it was to get you angry and worked up to stay online and keep seeing more ads. This same technology could be being used to figure out how to automate food production and distribution, housing development for the homeless and many other social problems that could be solved by a good algorithm but that doesn't make money. I feel like that's kind of where Pharrell was going with the ambulance metaphor, the same machine can take life just as easily as it can save life. It's up to the people that use it and control it.

Yep and this boils down to how do I as a Human, walk this life as a human? And who decides what is the correct way of walking? I’ve come to know the solution to be Jesus.

@@BlackNewsMonday I’m interested, who do you follow? Because I believe truth to be objective, because I’ve seen human “truth” to be subjective, because it is objective, it stands to reason that there is one truth. This is why I believe Jesus is the only way, not just a way. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” The Father being God The Father, and Jesus Being God The Son. This may seem contradictory, but if God’s will is the same, one will, then it is as Jesus says in John 17:21, “I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one-as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.” …Sorry I tend to ramble lol

Completely true. The Tower of Babel, Egypt, Rome, etc. History does repeat itself, but interestingly enough, God did something in the act of freeing people from people. Freeing us from ourselves. I’ve come to know that Jesus is the only one who can deliver us from our evil, and correct our steps.

Rumour has it that one time Oloff was sat next to Jar Jar Binks on a flight. Jar Jar kept kicking the chair in front of him and generally being obnoxious, nobody knew what to do. Eventually one of the flight attendants came over and asked Oloff if he would perform one of his songs to calm Jar Jar down, and when Oloff began rapping the first verse to Doing It Stealthy, Jar Jar immediately relaxed. To this day the two are still close friends.

What is interesting to me and what I can see as a potential double standard from the homies in this interview is that the technology that they are all worried about is the same technology that they are using to propagate their own music. Pharrell touched on this with the horse v car analogy but 30 years ago or so when they were developing DAWS (Digital Audio workstations) people were probably like this technology is wild and too far and these kids don’t what it was like in the old days and everything was so much better when we had to record things more manually. 30 years prior to that people were probably like all this new technology that makes it easier to fly to places and mics that make it easier to project your voice, and distort your live instrument, they were probably like these kids don’t know how beautiful it was to be the one responsible for projecting your voice to a large audience and the hustle fulfillment it took for you to travel by road across the country. With that being said I think technology in a sense can be scary but I think an interesting conversation would be how can we use these technologies to advance the arts and propagate our desired future rather then taking a stance that the past was somehow better when in reality the same things that were said in this conversation were probably said in the past. That’s why Pharrell points interested me so much because equally as he seemed afraid of these new technologies, he also was in a place of acceptance. And I think also looking at technology at the point of the younger generation also helps quell fears and take a new perspective. For example, when Pharrell was saying how the younger generation see the older generation is weird for always wanting to call because from the younger generations perspective all they ever knew was that FaceTime is the main mode of communication. And in 20-30 years when/if AI generated art becomes like DAWS and electronic music, people from that generation would only ever know that as there reality. But I still believe there will be artists in that time. That’s why I think the focus should be on how can we use and leverage these technologies to continue to create what’s meaningful to us and culture instead of being so tied down to particular tool or nostalgia

it's so crazy how technology gets scapegoated. technology isn't a thing, it's just a function of us. no humans = no technology. humans = technology. it's arbitrary to start with computers. why not the printing press? why not the electric guitar or mpc? why not the wheel? pharrell headed in the right direction when he mentioned the people who make the phones, that's who it is. and as people we let them ruin everything good. he probably didn't mean it this way, but later he says something like if you're ok with a robot serving you, you have to be ok when it turns on you. i think of the animatrix and i agree. if machines have brains, we'll use their sentience to oppress them the same way our societies are set up to oppress the unknowing now. and if they fight back, to me that's a righteous resistance. i wouldn't fear it. never have with humans, never would with any other sentience.

Personally I dont care how good AI is making songs. Ill always know that it is synthetic and not organic. Its cool, but I'll always be more impressed by a human making music than an algorithm. The only people who really will love the shit is the corporation's, who wont have to pay humans as much or even at all to make music/art. Same with regular jobs, they will replace humans with machines and AI to save money than pay humans to do it. GREED.
@BeyondAbsolute3

We’re the minority here. When you think about the masses and how they gobble up synthetic/bs sounding music/anything to begin with, it isn’t a far cry for AI rap to become a thing, then pop, then jazz then whatever as far as the MASSES soaking that shit up, they will. And the tides are already turning. I’m like will war be the catalyst for change in the right direction or is the direction we’re headed inevitable? What will it take to get off this dystopian path we’re on, is it fate? This is a very interesting time in human history.

I agree with Pharell in that technology is morally neutral and has the potential for both good and bad outcomes. He used cars as an example, but the same could be said about guns, or even fire. But, there are laws that regulate cars and guns in the interest of public safety and to hold those who use them to harm accountable for the damage that people do with them. You can't just leave a fire going after you are done camping. And if you do, you may be arrested for arson or held responsible financially for the damages you caused. We need to have some laws, or at least a general consensus of what is acceptable on the part of the public, that doesn't allow the people who make robots and artificial intelligence to be the only ones to determine what can be done. Because, while what actually currently can be done is concerning, what will be possible very soon will be overwhelming. Not everything that can be done; should be. And if we don't voice that as a group, we leave that up to Google, Microsoft, Tesla, and the CCP; which is like expecting the wolves to be good shepherds.
