Back in the day, I had an idea that I never acted on. Later on, I heard a Jermaine Dupri track just like the idea I had. I was so mad, but I drug my feet on it! Stop thinking that you are the only one that thinks the way you think!

Back in like 97, my homie was starting to do beats and he did a lot of hihats & 808s (trap) and I started putting melodies on top. We never did anything with those ideas. Fast forward a few years later, no lie, That was becoming the sound of the South. And the melodies with the trap beats are the standard. Im not saying we were the creators of the sound. Im saying we had early access library cards 🤷🏿♂️

The presentation of ideas are more important than the origination of idea. Without the presentation we would not be talking about the idea in the first place!

Oh my goodness!!! I ALWAYS have these grandiose ideas, and based on my lack of instruments, it is difficult to do. Many of us just forget it because we want it to be EXACTLY like how we heard it in our heads.

Oh my god, YES!! I have absolutely had ideas come to me in a dream, and when I woke up, it was just about gone, BUT… I can’t tell you how many damn times an idea (FULLY FLESHED OUT IDEA) comes to me when I’m trying to fall asleep. Omg, it’s THE WORST… Especially since there’s only been a couple times where I had the right amount of determination and discipline to GET OUT OF BED RIGHT THEN, so I could write it down or voice record the idea on my phone… MAAAAN… so many incredible ideas just faded off into sleep land tho… DAMN… 😮

Yeah Rick Rubin mentions the same thing in his book, we're all antennas for creative ideas. When it's time for an idea to be in the world, it'll come to you and if you don't act upon it, don't be surprised if someone else has the same idea.
@gregh_777 Жыл бұрын
these ideas sound a lot like the things discussed in Rick Rubins book The Creative Act: A Way of Being. Highly recommend checking it out. I loved the audio version.

Enough said Curtis, thank you that was deep, really opened my eyes to things! Pharrell snapped, that's deep because Divine energies also coming into play with that. Just say that the most high may have gave you a blessing, but you didn't appreciate it, so the most high gave it to somebody else who appreciate it better than you! 💯 Be grateful, because the universe might need you more than you think! It just maybe you that can make that change! If you take it!

brooooooooooooooooooo, again broooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo this is real 😂.... I work in an ad agency, ideas is what we live for, so this topic of borrowed ideas isn't talked about enough, i remember one time Rick Rubin said something similar to this, i make music all the time, in my head i'm hans zimmer in reality i don't know music theory, i get frustrated most times when orchestrations gets played in my head and I can't bring it out to reality, it hurts really bad 😂😭

I guess i can understand what he's saying in the sense that I use to be heavy in the drumkit scene, making drum kits left and right and when i wanted to go a different direction i would always get frustrated because the company I was working with would hassle me about not doing what THEY wanted... So it felt like more of a chore later on than anything else... And then eventually i would scrap the ideas and stick to the script... I no longer work with them anymore and although im not making as much money... I dont miss it...

What I ve been doing lately is following the ideas of the legendary Roc Marciano. I am by far not a beat maker. But i have a zoom sampletrak, so i ll sample a part of a beat loop it up and make songs on the straight sample. I know thats lazy but i get the song done and a later date can reconstruct it on an original beat or give the idea away to someone else someone with the resources. I just like to write its a hobby.

90% of the bangers that I've made started out as beatboxed or hummed ideas in my phone! And in some cases I even keep those original ideas in a track, hidden in the percussion, because those ideas come while I'm at work, while I'm driving, while I'm sleeping, etc. And if I don't get them in my phone AS SON AS THEY COME, I'll lose em! Before smart phones, I'd call home and leave my ideas on my answering machine. I posted those a few years ago, showing how my ideas start in my phone. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJu6nJqogpaMZ5Y
