I can't even express how much this man has helped me navigate early adulthood through his music and philosophy. Growing up in the hood in LA, black kids weren't really "allowed" to be into skateboarding or ska music or anything that went against the grain, without being scrutinized or ostracized from the group. N*E*R*D- Fly or Die is still my all-time favorite album, it helped me through college when I felt alone and misunderstood. I learned that it's ok to be different, and to not be ashamed of it. I disagree with what Pharrell said early in this video , “cool isnt something you can teach it’s something you’re born with” being “cool” and innovative comes with being original and fine tuning you’re own unique style anyone can do it if they truly want to but they have to separate themselves from the herd and mix what they like and it’s trail and error, granted some are more artistically inclined but taste can be learned and appreciated so being “cool” is a learnable skill not just some gift only special ppl have

How I interpreted that statement is that everyone has a sense of "cool" that is unique to them and only them. It was never given to them by someone else. it's not learnable in the sense that you can acquire it by reading a step-by-step process in a book. Cool originates from within and our perception of what it is depends on us and what we personally find interesting.
