You could have explained what it means to be in phase/ out of phase in terms of angles. E.g. For what angles are waves in phase, when they are 360 degrees apart etc, and for what degrees they are out of phase

Why would you measure the phase difference by picking a point on one wave and a point on the other wave that occur at two separate times? Surely you shluld pick a time, then measure the difference in displacement?

Hello, a Q from phase-contrast microscopy. Light rays of a particular phase when pass through a specimen (say a RBC) based on the differences in height of the diff. regions of the specimen the light rays undergo differential time lag(Why?) .

I still don't understand that principle of superposition of waves which states that constructive interference occurs when the phase difference is a multiple of 2π and destructive interference occurs when the difference is an odd multiple of π. I have a presentation tomorrow ☹️

How to measure path or phase diff between two waves by taking whole wave or one crest & trough

The distance between the two waves peaks divided by the wavelength distance then multiply by 360 for degrees or 2π for your answer to be in Radians..

The whole loop of a stationary wave is in phase - there for zero.The next loop is pi radians out of phase with it.

I think theres an error here, plz correct me if im wrong. Is 1/5 lambda not the path difference and the result after in radians and degrees is the phase difference

Either can happen. I'm doing A level now, but I did phase difference in gcse as well and the questions on this topic are similar. Sometimes you might get a question where they give you the phase difference and you have to use it to work something else out. Sometimes you'll get given two waves and asked to work out the phase difference from them.

idk but it makes no difference, you dont need to, but what i am guessing is that the 1 is a "whole" wavelength, and 1/5 is a fraction of it ??? i am 2 years late >.>
