Creating a DARK TOWER in Photoshop - Fantasy Speed Art

In this week's #photoshop #speedart, I wanted to turn the fantasy fortress piece on its head and create something a little darker ... ominous towers, spires, castles have always stood out to me - I guess it's the lure of not knowing what hides within. For this piece I wanted to capture certain elements from the references I mention in the video, and create a scene, a place of menace and dark power.
*For those wondering, I decided against the character as it just didn't work from a scale point of view.

This whole time I imagined that artist were only making these book inspired arts (for calendars, etc.) with actual drawing and painting and never imagined that these things could be made in a fraction of the time (and with higher detail) by splicing real imagery with color balance, hue/sat, and adding highlights and shadows.
