PhD is for research. And it opens doors for you to teach in universities and colleges. You must first analyse what your priorities are. And it is okay to start PhD after some years of work experience but stipend may/may not match your current salary. See all pros and cons and then decide

@@Foodinfo16 First of all relax, better if you go for iits. Prepare a list of top iits. See physics department and faculty there along with their research interests. Then see who are working in similar areas. Mail them with your abstract and apply with research proposal when application window opens
