Don't know if anyone's mentioned it, but the doctor/dog they ended up using was a failed police attack dog who was so vicious no one could appear on set with it. I just find that amusing since it shows such a lack of care for the actual human beings on set. In case Eli Roth just butchering concepts on screen wasn't enough for you to know he wants humanity to suffer.

It's almost as if the cabin fever condition is felt by the audience rather than the cast of the film. We're stuck with these characters who can't escape their situation, and unless we walk out or turn it off we have to witness the gore front and center which also makes you uncomfortable and more antsy. That's the effect this had on me at least.

Cabin Fever, oh I remember hearing about this movie. Its these kids go to a cabin in the woods and get infected with a disease that makes them paranoid, erratic, violent, schizophrenic. Like an extreme case of.... Cabin Fever! Oh wait, the movie is just kids go to a cabin and get leprosy or at least what Hollywood thinks leprosy is. +Chris McWilliams No, they did not. Just think about any of the Friday the 13th movies. Characters in these type of movies used to be horrendously bad. What are those "older horror movies" your are refering to anyway? Movies like The Haunting? If you have only seen a few major classics you most likely expect too much. Eli Roth is a fan of exploitation genre, which is filled with bad acting and stupid characters and usually had very weak plot.

Mad Max and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are way too mainstream. I'm talking about films like The Last House on the Left, I Spit on Your Grave, Cannibal Ferox, The Wizard of Gore etc. I like those kind of movies and I give a credit to Roth paying homage to genres long dead. He's obviously making films he used to love when growing up (slasher, splatter, sexploitation, cannibal films...). I see nothing bad about that. Even though he isn't as talented as Tarantino, I still think there's an audience for these type of movies.

I would also add that the original "Last House On the Left" made the two young girls who were the victims very likable (if somewhat naive and trusting). Even her parents could be understood and their motives were clear. "I Spit on Your Grave" is the same thing. The VICTIM (in the case the young woman who got raped) was, before the rape/revenge part happened, was a perfectly normal and likable young woman. Now, I'm guess the poster was confused because these movies flip the dynamic a bit between victim and attacker in that both movies involve people getting revenge for the evil acts of others. You can't classify the killers in "Last House On the Left" or the rapists in "I Spit on Your Grave" as the victims in these movies. In these movies the victims are the people THEY attacked. As for "Friday the 13th" my recall of these movies is that, yeah, one or two of the victim characters were annoying and some maybe even bad people but I don't recall even the worse of them being as bad as characters in modern horror movies and it wasn't all of them. Even Shelly (the annoying prankster) would be a better character to spend time with than any of the modern horror movie characters. Then, there's the flip side, where modern movies try to make the killers sympathetic and make us root for them by giving them horrible backstories and telling us they're just abused and misunderstood and not evil.

2:30 I love that 'jackass guy', as one of his jackass things, _lights the fake campfire prop during the day-time_ even though that's a production thing and not something a real-life camp-out would have (or which most of the audience would be familiar with) And even though it shouldn't have, the 'Wanna go out?' I think a movie that did this whole satirizing unlikable $h!theads in horror movies better was Unfriended. That movie’s not great either, but at least it makes it obvious by the end that you’re not really supposed to like them, with them all turning on each other, and through that it makes some decent commentary on how self-absorbed the internet can make you. *This* movie has moments even towards the end where you’re clearly supposed to feel bad for them, which doesn’t fit *at all* with their awful portrayal throughout the whole movie!
