Hi thank you for excellent analysis, so basically Hindu India = The supreme god is the Trimurti (Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma) and other gods in traditional manifestations with their various characteristics. Hindu Nusantara = The supreme god is Sang Hyang Widhi/Acintya/Para Brahman, who is the ultimate entity, transcendent without physical form, while the Trimurti according to them represents aspects of the manifestation of Sang Hyang Widhi. nirguna parabrahm upasana is not necessarily the prescribed next step of the worship method in Hinduism. While some texts do say that idol worshipping is for the untrained mind who is not able to focus, both idol worshippers and worshippers of the nirguna parbrahm are said to be "in the light" if they acknowledge and recognize who they`re worshipping. The concept of "isht devta" and a personal god in Hinduism on the other hand completely advocates for the worship of a god-with-attributes as the most supreme form of worship (like the hare krishna sect and other sects promoting bhakti marg of seeking god)

It is so true that we Hindu especially in Bali we worship for Para Brahman the form less God. The highest Truth. The One, without beginning or end, all-pervading, free from all blemishes, full and perfect. That's why most of the Temple (Pura) in Bali don't have any statue inside the main Temple. Actually it looks similar to the concept of Sanghyang Taya from agama Tirta/agama Kapitayan or we called it dynamism and animism... It's the legacy of Aji Saka/Ajiwaka/Ajivaka from Bumi Majeti/Kali Serayu... Our ancestor from Jambudwipa according to purwacarita... The term Kapitayan is Old Javanese in origin, constructed from the base word Taya/Teu Aya (unimaginable', 'unseen', or 'absolute'). Thus, it means that Taya cannot be thought or imagined, or cannot be approached by pancaindra (the five senses)... Kapitayan is teaching that worships a main deity or God called Sanghyang Taya (ꦱꦁꦲꦾꦁꦠꦪ, meaning 'unimaginable entity'; also called Suwung (ꦱꦸꦮꦸꦁ), Awang (ꦲꦮꦁ), or Uwung (ꦲꦸꦮꦸꦁ)). Sanghyang Taya is defined as tan keno kinaya ngapa (ꦠꦤ꧀ꦏꦺꦤꦏꦶꦤꦪꦔꦥ), meaning "cannot be seen, thought about, or imagined". As an abstraction that cannot be described, His existence is unreachable by worldly capacity... The Kapitayan/Aji Saka/Ajiwaka/Ajivaka teachings did not worship the object as absolute power but rather worshiped Hyang, the highest power... Hyang/Hong/Ong/Om/God... Now, sembahyang (worshipping Hyang) has become a synonym for sholat (Islamic prayer) in bahasa Indonesia... But some of our brothers (especially Kejawen) face directly into Mt. Semeru/Mahameru in East Java instead of Ka'bah... Similar to agama Sunda Wiwitan, the final goal is to nga-hyang/ngahiang/mukti/moksa... Addition: The term animism and dynamism and agama Sunda Wiwitan is more acceptable than the term of agama Kapitayan... Because some of our brothers want to separate their ancestors teachings from syncretic teaching...

Hello, archaeologist here. First of all, thank you for showing big interest in our cultural heritage. I would like to add some (not very popular) information regarding this temple, if you like :) This temple complex were formally called as "Shivagrha" (House of Shiva), as it was mentioned in the Shivagrha inscription, now in Indonesian National Museum (it's googleable). The neighboring Buddhist temple (now called as Sewu Temple), was originally called as Manjusrigrha. We called it Prambanan because it was found in ruins (not bcs of war, but abandoned after volcanic activities that shifted Javanese civilization eastward, that's another story) and simply located in a village named Prambanan. There are some theories regarding the etimology of that name, but the Para Brahman root is one possibility. Just like Prambanan, a lot of Javanese temples were rediscovered in ruined state, and with most of the local population lost connection to them (albeit most were preserving their Javanese culture), most of the original names for the temples were lost, except for those lucky enough to be mentioned in any inscriptions, like Shivagrha (Prambanan) does. Usually for the no-name temples we would identify it with either: 1. The name of the village nearby, or 2. The (contemporary) local name of it. For example, the neighboring Sewu Temple were called as such because it has so many shrines people assuming it to be a thousand (in Javanese: Sewu) of them.

When this illusion fades with seeking ( spiritual seeking) then probably we will realise who we really are , maybe the realised sages experienced it ‘ Aham brahmasmi ‘ and hence introduced it into texts . Maybe this realisation itself is ‘Moksha ‘ from cyclic life called samsara . Some one else used the word ‘ tatva asmi’ ‘ i am that ‘ to explain his realisation of the ultimate truth. But experience is same difference is in expression in words.

During my study about the Srivijaya Empire, and about how the “0” (zero), was found and establish as decimal numeric positional system in which in my opinion is highly correlates with the spiritual and religious characteristic of the people. Because sunya, sunyata, and kasunyatan (a concept and condition of emptiness) can not be achieve, understood, found, and finally written, without a solid high fundamental spiritual awareness, about a condition, before & after creation (from zero to existence). And yes, the people of Indonesia in the olden days were worshipping the Sang Hyang Suwung/Taya/Tunggal, as explained in the canto 139, verse 5 of the Kakawin or Kāvya Sutasoma writen by Mpu Tantular during the Majapahit era in the 14th century CE as: “Rwaneka dhatu winuwus Buddha Wiswa, Bhinneki rakwa ring apan kena parwanosen, Mangka ng Jinatwa kalawan Siwatatwa tunggal, Bhinneka tunggal ika tan hana dharmma mangrwa”. "It is said that Buddha and Shiva are two different substances. They are indeed different, but how can both can be recognized? While the truth of Jinna (Buddha) and truth of Shiva are singular (one). Different but singular, there is no duality (ambiguous) in truth. in which misinterpreted by the western anthropologists in portraying the religions & belief system in Indonesia, by simplifying them in general terms as “animism and dynamism”. They’re depicting the religions and beliefs in Indonesia as animism whose worshiping rock and trees that commonly known as animism. But the truth is, it is not the rocks or the trees that they were worshiping. But the essence of the supreme being that creating the trees, the rocks, mountains, and the oceans that they’ve called as Sang Hyang Suwung (The God of Void/Before Creation/Alpha and Omega/The Beginning And The End), Sang Hyang Taya (The Unique; beyond comprehension), Sang Hyang Wenang (The Absolute Authority), Sang Hyang Tunggal (The One and Only), and many other name in which represent the one and only existent (creator) that creates the universe. This belief in worshiping Sang Hyang Taya in the concept of belief system in Java is called as Kapitayan or sometimes Kasunyatan, in which is describing the existance of supreme being (God) as “tan kena kinaya ngapa, tan kena kinira”, means "something absolute, that cannot be thought, cannot be imagined, that beyond imagination / comprehension," in which by the Indonesian people picturized as an empty void, the concept of sunya (empty), and sunyi (silent) in today Indonesian terminology. Amazing channel! My stepson is cambodian. His grandmother escaped during the genocide. His mother was born during or right after the escape. She has passed, but her last name is a royal or Famous last name in Cambodia. Because of This channel and the coverage of the Temples, we are hoping to venture to Cambodia and see the Temples there. Soo much knowledge in these temples. I had an idea that the Lingams possibly produced the electricity to light up the inside of the temples… and i love the ideas presented in the videos of what if the moving of the part of the columns opened other doors or raised the roof or parts of the temple !! Amazing architecture !! My father was an architect for The Army Corp of Engineers. We have studied american architecture together and never studied Temples!! I wish i had found this channel While he was still alive. Also i feel like the cross shaped temples were built in India and then the British or Europeans copied it for their churches in other places.
