He was born when horses and buggies were still the main transportation, survived WWI AND WWII. Then he lived to see television, the first man on the Moon, cell phones, and the Internet. He was a very long lived, talented, fat man. What an interesting life he had! RIP

I was in Austria in 2004 but I didn't realize he was still alive. I would have loved to have gotten to meet him while I was there.

General Burkhalter was very funny. Whenever he would appear on Hogan’s Heroes, I knew I’d be treated to a lots of laughs, the way he would attack poor Klink.
