Thank you Phi for all the incredibly informative videos and guides that you put out since the start of Tekken 8, and the competitive sacrifices you had to take in order to make them. I'm not new to fighting games but Tekken was really hard for me to grasp. In Tekken 7 I couldn't even get to green ranks all while looking up guides, frame data, and practicing punishes. But thanks to you I have a much better understanding of how Tekken works and managed to get to Vindicator in only about 3 ranked sessions, as well as a 10 win streak in one of them (which is unheard of for me). I'm sure that I'm not the only one to experience this. Keep doing what you're doing, thank you for all your hard work, and best of luck in your competitive efforts.

Great video Phi, really appreciate you. I needed to hear you break all this down for myself as I'm struggling in the aspects you mentioned, it was really getting me down and Tekken started to feel like a chore and created anxiety in me. Tekken 8 is the very first Tekken I've dedicated myself to learning and trying to get to a level of play I'm happy with myself with. But I think I'm putting too much pressure and expectation on myself because I'm doing informational learning and mechanical learning but not enough practical learning, I know things but I'm not actually playing the game enough (online I mean) and actually conditioning myself to a point where all that informational & mechanical will eventually bloom if I just keep playing, I don't want to fail. But this video was great because I realized I HAVE to fail, I HAVE to take those Ls even tho I might know do things or how my character works or the opponents etc, I'm gonna just play the game (online) and learn from the Ls, eventually it will all come together. Again great video and thanks for sharing how your competitive experience has been and plans for the future. What you do is very cool and incredibly helpful. 👍🏾

The FC d/f+2 route with u/b+2 > DCK 1 > d/f+1, [2~1] > FLK 2 route is less damage than u/b+2 > DCK 1 > d/f+1, [2~1] > f+2, 2 > LHN 2 unless it's a case that leaves the opponent slightly off axis to the left. In cases where they're slightly to the left like Reinas hellsweep or Fengs Snake Edge you can go for FC d/f+2 > b+2 > d/f+1, [2,~1] > DCK cancel > WS 1 > f+2, 2. For people that can't read nerd: - FC = full crouch - d = down, f = forward, u = up, b = back - DCK = duck - 2~1 = slide input - FLK = flicker - LHN = Lion heart - WS = while standing - 1234 = left punch, right punch, left kick, right kick

Like UFC there’s a resurgence of a technic and strategy that’s working now and it cycles through other strategies that have been known. I got a martial arts background so I apply some of the things that I know and adapting it to gaming. And trying things out bc it can work. For right now fighting online is what I do, just experience no drilling and just getting a feel for how moves work in terms of range and speed . What helps me the most learning match-ups is really to just manually answer moves countless times in practice mode. You will know and recognize that certain lows are reactable and launch-punishable but will not have the muscle memory to do so in a heated match. Doing it over and over in practice mode will develop the instincts to react to them accordingly.

I'm not a great sf player, but I do think your approach is slightly flawed with sf6 here, which is a shame because your understanding really shines through when it comes to tekken and I'd love to see you do well. I'm sure you'll have got plenty of backseaters by now already, but what I want to offer two pieces of very practical advice. 1) Gief's biggest weakness is defense. Trying to play slow is fine if you're comfortable with your reactions in neutral, but strong offensive play can melt Gief. You're so worried about reacting to what he does that you don't establish nearly enough threats for him to respect. The divekicks were all great. If you added some more walk up buttons, drive rush, normal jump etc he'd have more to think about and less space to threaten his strong options. 2) think about spacing as the thing that unlocks different options for you and your opponent (as well as other variables). Gief does in fact have many threatening approach options, but if you're mindful of your spacing, you can much more effectively manage them, especially if you start pressuring him with some of your stuff. When he has level three, it's a very practical option to just preentively poke and get out, and if he drive rushes in you backdash. That's just an example, but spacing is a really important variable to help manage the mental stack. You're probably aware of these concepts, I just want to emphasise how applying them better in this case (and in the other matches of yours that I saw) would have made it easier. Sometimes we get stuck trying to check everything and react, without realising that we aren't exploring other lanes that could win us the match.

I was curious to ask this question myself in your chat at some point, but I figured you had heard it enough already lolol Do you think that there's a point where the practical experience and mechanical learning caps out? At least for these players that play the game every day for at least a few hours a day, do you think they can only become so much better mechanically? The improvement on those probably starts teetering off and becoming less efficient at a certain level, at which point, doing more informational learning is more efficient. At least, in my mind and at my non-pro level of understanding? Curious on your thoughts about that! It seems like you doing all this content would at least mostly benefit your informational learning to the point that catching up on the practical and mechanical learning shouldn't be *that* much of a gap, but again, that's just my pondering. 🤔
@PhiDX10 күн бұрын
Im pretty sure I allude to this answer in the video, but Consider a pro who practices 6 hours a day, 7 days a week against other top level pros I practice against high level NA players online, 100 ms, maybe 2 hours a week. So in terms of practical experience, I am down 40 hours a week, not including the fact that we are playing online in NA and the skill environment is not as high as Pakistan or Korea. So its 40 hours less and it's less quality I've been short those 40 hours a week for 12 months. It is an enormous gap

In Koe's defense, Cammy is one of AKI's worst matchups, heavily favorable for you so it makes sense he would pick his secondary. Now it's just a pride thing if you want people to view you as the best.
