Lyrics
Take that look of worry
I'm an ordinary man
They don't tell me nothing
So I find out what I can
There's a fire that's been burning
Right outside my door
I can't see but I feel it
And it helps to keep me warm
So I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind
Seems so long I've been waiting
Still don't know what for
There's no point escaping
I don't worry anymore
I can't come out to find you
I don't like to go outside
They can't turn off my feelings
Like they're turning off a light
But I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind
Oh I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind
So take, take me home
Cos I don't remember
Take, take me home
Cos I don't remember
Take, take me home
Cos I don't remember
Take, take me home, oh lord
Cos I've been a prisoner all my life
And I can say to you
Take that look of worry, mine's an ordinary life
Working when it's daylight
And sleeping when it's night
I've got no far horizons
I don't wish upon a star
They don't think that I listen
Oh but I know who they are
And I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind
Oh I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind
So take, take me home
Cos I don't remember
Take, take me home
Cos I don't remember
Take, take me home
Cos I don't remember
Take, take me home, oh lord
Well I've been a prisoner all my life
And I can say to you
But I don't remember
Take, take me home...

There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.

That's something I can relate to, not necessarily for the 80s as I wasn't born, but for significant times that' passed and the music that came with it. Quite astutely put 👌

My grandfather passed away recently. He requested this song play during the procession of his cremation. I'm 25, I had no prior acknowledgment or appreciation for this song. But after listening to it after his funeral, I can appreciate his desire to return whence he came and be at rest, his soul to be taken home, a place I can only imagine as the spanning Welsh green pastures that encapsulate this beautiful country. In my heart, I truly believe he is at rest, and that he is having a proper laugh with Uncle James in those green Welsh expanses. I love you Alan, I'm sorry I didn't say it more, but I hope you knew it in your heart. Your Grandson, Connor.

@@hiheyitsme_tayaltanese2826 He loved his whiskey, the proper Welsh stuff, Penderyn. I've been having a sip in his honor, and I'll be pouring some on his grave soon, sharing a drink with him from beyond. I'd like to think that he would appreciate that, and it shan't be his last, I'll be sure to pour some for him every year because I'll be damned if that insurmountable Welsh spirit of his is forgotten

“There’s a fire that’s been burning right outside my door. I can’t see, but I feel it, and it help to keep me warm. So, I don’t mind.” That line follows this one, “They don’t tell me nothing, so I find out all I can.” To me, it almost seems like Phil is describing the mental anguish one might go through when they feel excluded, and isolated. It almost sounds like someone soothing themselves through an anxiety attack. “I can’t come out to find you. I don’t like to go outside.” It sounds like someone who is uncomfortable around people. “They can turn off my feelings like they’re turning off the light.” Every line of this song rings so true to me. “Seems so long I’ve been waiting… still don’t know what for…” I’m 50 years old, and I still don’t know what I’m waiting for… so, I don’t worry anymore. ☺️

Take that look of worry I'm an ordinary man They don't tell me nothin' So I find out all I can There's a fire that's been burnin' Right outside my door I can't see but I feel it And it helps to keep me warm So I, I don't mind No I, I don't mind Seems so long I've been waitin' Still don't know what for There's no point escaping I don't worry anymore I can't come out to find you I don't like to go outside They can turn off my feelings Like they're turnin' off the light But I, I don't mind No I, I don't mind Oh I, I don't mind No I, I don't mind So take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home Oh, Lord 'Cause I've been a prisoner all my life And I can say to you Take that look of worry Mine's an ordinary life Working when it's daylight And sleeping when it's night I've got no far horizons I don't wish upon a star They don't think that I listen Oh, but I know who they are And I, I don't mind No I, I don't mind Oh I, I don't mind No I, I don't mind So take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home Oh, Lord Well, I've been a prisoner all my life And I can say to you But I don't remember Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember) Take, take me home

When I think of this song I think of the times popps had all of us girls in the work van, with that insane sound system and subs in the back of the old Chevy, I hear this song and I remember the smell of the Ocean in Vancouver, I think of breaking the law, no seat belts, just laying down in the back seat with my sis just looking at the city lights in downtown Vancouver through the huge windows, watching the world pass us by, or us pass by the world 🌍🌌🪐🌠🌃🚐🎵 R.I.P Dad.
