Phil Fish gets basically all the credit for Fez but the unsung hero is Renaud Bédard. He developed almost the entirety of Fez's game engine, and his blog has some nice and interesting articles from a game developer's point of view.

@koolgabieboi2816 Another person that needs to be mentioned is Shawn McGrath. The idea of a puzzle game in which a 3D space was viewed from four 2D angles, came from him. However due to creative differences the due split up and Phil Fish continued with Shawn's idea. It's kinda like how the Nightmare before Christmas is Tim Burton's idea, but it was Henry Selick who directed the film and told the story.

I kind of feel for Phil. He gets misquoted a lot. He didn't say Japanese games are bad. He actually stated that his and most indie games all take from old school Japanese games. He did say, "Modern Japanese games are shit". He then went on to say that he meant the game are all stuck in a rut. In other words, they are the same as older games. Oh and Alpha, don't forget what happened with FEZ on the 360... game came out buggy as shit, and people were having problems. He released a patch to fix it, and the patch completely wiped some peoples' save files. When asked if he would fix THAT problem, he basically said "no, I'm not obligated to fix that." THAT was the moment I said "fuck this guy".

Its a 3d game in old school retro pixel art that is always presented in the 2d, everything is square on a 2d plane that you can rotate 90* left or right with the triggers. I could care less about his personality. Growing up in the 80's, the existence of games was absolute magic. No way to plug into the Internet and start sending my diluted thoughts about the developers at them. In my opinion, both sides of this argument are wrong. Everyone surrounding Phil Fish is just showering with insult after insult, and honestly guys, the dude's had suicidal thoughts. Give him a break. Now, does people being dicks to him justify him being a total dick back? No. Of course not. But as far as I've heard (keyword: heard, so, not entirely sure), he's quit game development altogether and currently is a DJ, and on top of that, he's admitted to his mistakes. So, my final thoughts are this: Phil Fish was put in a bad spot, but he had some anger issues that he needed to deal with. Everyone in this argument did things wrong.

I played Fez for 2 hours and regretted buying it. I'm not a fan of the art style, the puzzles quickly became repetitive, The world was uninteresting, the gameplay was sluggish, and overall the game just bored me to tears. I really don't see where the hype came from.
