Like Zidane vs Djorkaeff in 98 world cup. In 98 nobody know who Zidane was and many had know who was Djorkaeff but France manager Aime Jacquet has different opinion. Any England manager need to learn from Jacquet and Palmer fits better in England set up than Foden.

The issue is both of them are at their best through the middle. And you have Saka who is naturally better on the right than both of them in that position. So you either bench a natural RW for a player somewhat out of position or you bench either Palmer or Foden.

Why do the media always only focus on the starting 11? The 5 sub rule means you change half the outfield team during the game and football is now a 16 man game with many clubs bringing on all 5 subs after 60 mins. Being an impact sub for some games is just as crucial. If Palmer or Saka are struggling you have a world class option from the bench in Foden or vice versa. Foden wasn’t given a fair chance in best position under Southgate which I think massively affects his form not too mention Southgate didn’t set his team up to play like Guardiola.

As a Chelsea fan, I feel bad for Foden cos people are quick to recognise that Palmer should be a starting 10 and rightly so, after about one season because he had a clear pathway at Chelsea due to Nkunku’s injury last season and most people agree that Jude needs to move to a deeper role to accommodate Palmer but no one was ready to admit that Jude should’ve been deeper from the jump and that 10 position should’ve been Foden’s to lose last tournament rather than Southgate shifting him out left for most of the torment which puts more pressure on him to deliver out of position and has now led to him being graded for England on a curve. The RW is locked with Saka and Foden should’ve been the locked 10 but Southgate jumped on the Bellingham hype to play 10 when Bellingham had played his whole career as an 8 apart from last season.
