My dad was a huge fan of Deadliest catch, especially Phil. My brother happened to run into Phil at a store in Seattle about a year or so before he died, and he told Phil that my dad, who was going through cancer at the time, was a huge fan of the show. My bro asked for an autograph, and Phil instead said “why don’t you give your dad a call.” He talked to my dad for about 10 minutes, just shot the breeze about boating and what not. Truly kind hearted guy. RIP

I got to meet Phil a few years ago. My son is mildly autistic and doesn't talk to strangers, but he was able to walk right up and ask to touch the tattoos on Phil's arm. He was so nice to the kids and they felt so comfortable with him, and it was heartwarming to watch this tough sea captain smiling and laughing with these little kids.

The thing about being a dad, is that as a man it is ingrained in us that we need to be the providers. This ofte. Leads to less and less time spent with the family. Ive seen multiple marriages broken due to the man working multipme jobs to take care of the family and the "you were t around enough" excuse is thrown at them.

What I love about this video is not only the music but also the love these tough guys show. They're not afraid to show their emotions. They're rivals and in the same situation when it comes to catch crabs. And when such a devastating tragedy strikes, they show their true feelings. They's like brothers. They are so united and all share their emotions. I love them all, especially the Hillstrand brothers. I love this show because this is real life and no set up or script written. And is there anybody who doesn't love Phil?? He was so beloved and is still dearly missed. This vid brings me to tears every time I watch it. Amazing music and one of the best vids ever made! So thank you for this. Deadliest catch is easily one of my most fav shows ever.

The images in this video make you realize that even though this was a TV show, behind all the drama and the cameras, the people on these shows are human. Everyday people like you and me and not everything is a put on for the ratings. I know that some may think that patronizing his hospital stay was uncalled for but I think it reflects the "Real Reality" of this show unlike so many others. I know it has been a few years since his passing but R.I.P Phil and prayers to his family.

Years later and this video still gets to me. In 2014 I lost my father to a suicide. There was no "saying goodbye". I've often wondered, what's more painful? To watch your loved one slowly passing or just have it suddenly happen and it's over. If I had a choice, I wish I could have looked my father in the eye and told him how much I loved him. Fortunately, we had a close relationship and he knew how much he was loved. I miss him terribly as I'm sure Josh and Jake still miss their father.

When Phil passed it was like losing a father...me and my dad cried together...My dad is a great dad and spoiled my brother and I..but he always looked at Phil and wished he could have been that kind of father...but what he doesn't know is that he is like Phil in many ways..Love ya Pops and rest high in Heaven King Phil Harris!!!When I watch this I can never get over how Edgar and Jake Anderson are just so sad....Especially Jake....Phil's death shook him hard!!!I never take eating crab for granted and refuse to take a bite until I say a prayer and a thank you to the crabbers that make it all possible!!!

I met Phil Harris along with his two sons once when they came to my hometown in Northern California to promote his new coffee brand. Shook their hands. I told him I wasn't looking for an autograph or anything from him, just wanted to meet him. He was relieved and said "Oh, thanks man". So sad.

Phil and Sig were always my favorite but I had a special place in my heart for Phil. He saw things for what they were and told it like it was...always. He reminded me of my uncle who passed a few years ago- hard as nails but had the biggest heart. I broke when this episode aired and he passed away. Life just isnt fair sometimes. 😞

I met phil twice as a kid, Always watched the show, i couldn't stand to watch it after phil passed away and Derrick got brought in as a captain. He got brought in with this Holeyer than thou attitude and didn't even care that the entire crew was still grieving and when Jake called him out on after the catch and he ran away, that was the greatest moment on TV.

In a world where so many kids are raised without fathers, seeing how irreplaceable the love and influence of a father can be and the void left behind at that loss is a tribute to the man and father he was. God bless.

My dad is going through the same at this moment. He’s still with us but is only getting worse by the day. Idk what I’m going to do without my worlds strongest man. I’m still super young, 34yrs old. I’m still learning and still need his guidance. All his daily phones calls and texts have already stopped. The feeling in my gut is like nothing I’ve ever felt.

There are some professions that age you prematurely, especially when you take constant smoking, constant stress, lack of sleep and crap diets into account. I understand that Phil was 53 at the time of his untimely death. I knew people who also passed away at a similar age when time caught up with them. I am a fan of the program and admire all who really put their lives on the line.
