I've always dreamed going back and live in the DR, It'll be about 5 years before I can move into my new off-grid home in the mountains near Santiago (about 21 minutes from the airport), but planning is half the fun. This is the first DR video I've seen about a modern solar system, and it's SO helpful. I was worried about the power situation, but it seems like I won't even need a massive solar array. I'll obviously have some extra panels and likely a gas generator for emergencies, but I'm so relieved I can be mostly solar-powered. Just makes the wait that much harder!

Great video !! Topic that many people will be interested in. What size/capacity are the batteries please ?

According to what the homeowner explains in the video, the system is capable of producing 800kw per month. Their usage is approx 600kw per month. The over could be sold back to the grid if they had a direct bi-directional metered system. Which may be coming soon, just another step in solar technology.

How do you protect it from Hurricanes?

Thank you for your question, I suppose hurricane insurance would be the best option, given if you covered the panels...well they wouldn't get any sun on them would they? This being said, the north coast is notorious for not having hurricanes...google can tell you about storms on the north coast of The Dominican Republic. Thanks for watching.

I doubt the panels come "hurricane proof" - the insurance would be down to the home owner and their policy.
