TV commercial for the Philco Predicta Decorator TV. This is the famous swivel head screen, introduced in 1958. When color TV came in a few years later, Predicta, Philco and Black & White TV were dead.

>> When color TV came in a few years later, Predicta, Philco and Black & White TV were dead. This is all wrong. Color TV broadcasts in the United States started in 1954; in 1959 there were about half a million color sets in use. Millions of black-and-white TVs were sold every year in the U.S. well into the 1970s. Philco-branded TVs were sold up until 1980. Sears stopped selling black-and-white TVs in 1990.

They said it was ideal for bedrooms as I have just found in one of their print ads

@@TechHowden That would make the most sense, given the scene being shown. I'm certain I knew that when I posted this comment as just a piece of comedy, but but I had totally forgotten about this clip being on KZbin until your reply, so thanks for that. A nice refresher and verification on just what they must have said there. :) Brings up the thought that a beadroom TV would be quite the luxury then, for sure...

@@KurisuYamato I know, I just posted it on because I have nothing better to do than looking at 1950s TV ads at 11 PM

@@TechHowden Of course. What else is there to do at 11PM except look at the most random things. :) Makes online life interesting... sometimes. Haha.

I saw one of these at a yard sale (Working!) for $15 in the early 80s... The regret I still have 40+ years later! 🤦♂️

None! It was COLOR sets that kicked off "X rays" and it was just a few models. CALM DOWN!

How is it "ugly? its just a box. THIS TV was predictive. It looks like a PC of the 80s-90s sans keyboard.
