Nice start off video of your boating adventure. I watched some of your other videos and enjoyed them. So, I'm going start off with your first video and watch all of them to your latest video. 🤠

Hello I discovered and subscribed to your channel on KZbin. I am about to retire and plan to have boating in my future. Like you I have never operated a vessel. I actually live in Burlington County NJ. You do not live too far from me. Did you use a local company to help you with navigating and docking a vessel. Thank you Ed Murray

No, we learned by ourselves in an empty marina (Neshaminy) with our Carver 355. Our boat arrived there in early April, before everyone came off the hard.

Grew up a bit in this marina as a kid and it's quite funny I stumbled across your channel. Subscribed!

Thanks for sharing your video. What are some of the precautions you take at the fuel docks? I hear often that gas boats are more dangerous than diesel boats. Especially at the fueling docks. I saw this weekend that a boat exploded at a gas fueling dock this in Lake of the Ozarks due to the lack of ventilation and a mechanical failure. Is there any information around the safety of gas marine engines y’all can share? Thank you.

Gas fumes can ignite while diesel fumes can not. With gas engines, blowers need to be on to turn in the engine room or it can result in an explosion. Diesels do not need blowers.

I live just north of that marina. I have been looking for people cruising. Lots of sailing channels.

Without sounding too intrusive. What do you guys do for work that you can just travel around and afford the maintenance of owning a boat like that?

Thanks for the videos. Currently looking at a 1995 Carver 355 hopefully for a loop trip like you. It needs a good wash but generally everything looked ok (pre-survey). 1300 hrs on 2 Crusaders 454. We are in 2021, the owner is asking for $58k for this old boat, seems steep for such an old boat. And this will be my first boat. Would you recommend for or against?
@tryingnottosink91073 жыл бұрын
We loved our Carver 355 and definitely recommend it. We sold it, pre-pandemic, for $45K, which was a very good deal, but we needed to get rid of it because we no longer had a slip for it. We have been told that the prices went up dramatically after Covid because people are choosing to buy boats rather than take vacations. So asking $58 for a quality 355 is not out of line. You'll probably get it for around $50-$53, which is about right, I think. If I had waited, I would have sold our in that range. There is a video of us selling it on our channel somewhere.

We get 0.75 miles per gallon at 10 knots, at 1250 RPMs.

How do you like your carver 355? Are you burning 20 -22 gallons per hour at approx 15-20 miles per hour ? I currently have a Bayliner 2858 with single 454 Merc engine. She burns about 20 gallons per hour on plane. Thinking about trading up to larger boat . Really like the design and layout of Carver 355. The extra room with private staterooms would be a great upgrade for us. My wife would like a more comfortable boat. We cruise San Francisco Bay. We don’t go out beyond the Golden Gate. Just inside San Francisco Bay.

We burn about 13 gallons an hour at 20 knots. It is a nice boat and a great size to get around in. We take her out for an occasional trip.

Trying Not To Sink do you have traditional gas 454 Mercs? The 13 gallons per hr not bad for such a heavy boat. She up on plane at that rate?

When I was searching for boats some guy told me the Bayliner’s are built very bad and they were very light and also twists in the water now this was in the early 90s I don’t know about today. He also said they blow around more because they’re light

Rocco N Well, I have a 1996 Bayliner 2858 Cieira. I’ve owned it for several years. No problems with it, just normal maintenance. Had a survey done of the hull and engine when I bought it. No major problems found. I cruise the San Francisco Bay and stay within the Golden Gate Bridge. The boat handles fine. I paid $42k for it and it was like new. Now it’s worth $15-20k. They do depreciate a lot. Loads of fun. Love my Bayliner. Yes, they are light but I don’t think they blow around anymore than most boats of similar size. I chose to buy a Chevy rather than a BMW. I didn’t pay $150k for it.

@@Chas1160 Maybe that was back in to early 80's. I was looking for a boat back then and a friend who knew a lot about boats helped. I looked at a Bayliner and it was beautiful and big inside, it was around $50,000 back then. Then I looked at a Searay for the same price and inside was small and had a pole in the center of the cabin. My friend told me Searay was a better built boat and thats why it was smaller because it was supported well. He said the Bayliners he tested twisted and were bad in the wind because they were light. I felt the differance in the two, The Searay felt solid. But big changes happen over ten years

what kind of a captains license did you have to go through to get one of these for recreational use?
@tryingnottosink91076 жыл бұрын
You do not need a captain's license. In Pennsylvania you are required to take an online safety course but that is it. You only need a license if you have paying guests onboard.
@ProfessorDeezNutz6 жыл бұрын
You can get your USCG "6 pack" captains license as they call it, which is the lowest level captains license: It permits you to take up to 6 paying passengers.
