Donovan was best friends with the Beatles. In the Beatles song, "Yellow Submarine", it's Donovan who wrote the line, "sky of blue, sea of green." And on Donovan's most famous song, "Mellow Yellow", it' Paul McCartney in the background of the middle of the song doing all those "cat calls" vocals. Donovan also taught both Paul McCartney and John Lennon how to play the finger-picking style of guitar. The Beatles song, "Dear Prudence" immediately puts John's newly learned skills from Donovan into a song.

Blows my mind that rock's greatest drummer, John Bonhom with session musician Jimmy Page, which would shortly thereafter form 1/2 of the heavy metal supergroup Led Zeppelin, along with lead singer Robert Plant and bassist John Paul Jones. But to hear that proto-Led Zeppelin sound backing Donovan gives this track an even more otherworldly sound and feel.

You think Ringo Starr of the Beatles does a lot of drum fills? Nothing in comparison with what Bonhom does even here. Such intricate and extensive drum fills, and yet he keeps perfect time like Ringo.

Donovan was close to Paul McCartney and John Lennon in the heyday of the Beatles. In fact, if memory serves me, John was best man at Donovan's wedding.
