Mr.Farkas was a really nice player. I hope this recording can help to improving more horn players! :)

He judged me at Texas Solo and ensemble. I asked him a lot of questions about horn and Dennis Brain. Very nice guy.

Mr. Farkas was a great horn player, but an even greater person.

R Berg How did you happen to meet him? Did you study with him perchance?
@rberg78877 жыл бұрын
I never had the opportunity to study with him, but met him at the Internation Horn Society Horn Symposium at Bloomington, Indiana - in 1979. I played (and still play) a Holton Farkas model horn and approached him and asked a question about the rotor stops which were cork neoprene on the latest Farkas model. He brought me some neoprene stops the next day and thanked me for playing his model of horn.

Meant to say MY stops were cork, but the latest model had neoprene stops...

Fine performance! Think how long ago this was recorded. Very difficult piece of music to perform; he was indeed a wonderful person too! A great orchestral member of the Chicago Symphony, a great teacher at Northwestern University, and a truly wonderful human being!

Strangely enough, the pianist is much more musical than Mr. Farkas! Beautiful accompaniment. I wish only that Mr. Farkas had been inspired by his companion's musicality. That said, Mr. Farkas does indeed have a lovely tone, although I don't think it comparable to world-class horn sound. However, his performance is technically perfect -- and that is a formidable accomplishment in horn playing! His placement of each note is impeccable. He demonstrates awesome flexibility, and I do mean "awesome" in the truest sense of the word. I stand in awe of his performance of this piece. His fluid sound and command of the entire range of the horn is flawless. Also, the clarity of his tone and perfection of pitch is incomparable. Bravo! THANK YOU for posting this inspirational example of horn playing. Mr. Farkas makes it sound easy, and it ain't!

For a good reason I'd like to compare this performance to Rachmaninoff playing Chopin blades and waltzers ... one can only say it is easy and simple but the truth is Philip Farkas and Rachmaninoff make it sound like it is.

stickom- I hope you realize I am in agreement with you. English may not be your primary language? Make sure you read my last sentence where I state unequivocally that Mr. Farkas makes it sound simple...but it isn't! This a compliment. He is a brilliant technician, therefore making a difficult piece sound "easy" . Are you a horn player? Have you tried this piece? It is NOT a simple piece. I'm confused by your comment. Where does Rachmaninoff playing Chopin fit in? Respectfully, Marcy

You are right: English is not my primary, not the secondary.... may be just one of lower league languages I use for simple communication, so this may answer your question. What I am surprise is your ESL level in expressing such precious thoughts.... but it is OK to me. I offer you German instead to communicate in details. About the performance, yes it is flawless and it sound easy. I will certainly give a try. I play horn but my occupation is in very different field, so all I need is leisure time to grab the instrument and play...

The communication chasm is too great and you have resorted to disrespectful comments. No more.

I agree, both the accompaniment and horn are amazing, to have this small piece of personal history on youtube gives me great joy.
