Thank you, Timo. Your rendition wasn't the first I heard of this etude. But became my favorite instantly. The tempo, the control, and your focus are on point. Never pushing too hard, or fast. Yet you achieved both speed, and emotion. With control, patience, and precision. It's as fascinating to watch you play, as it is to listen. But what keeps bringing me back to your rendition though... is the sheer fact that you don't monetize, and slap ads on this, like the rest. It truly brings me great joy, that you are sharing your hard work, and dedication. With no strings attached. So I share this with everyone I can. One day though, I'd love to play this, as you do. But until that distant future arrives... Etude No.6 by Timo Andres will be my go-to aspiration. Godspeed, sir.

This is one of my favorite of the Glass etudes. I love the smoothness and intensity of the performance. Brought me to tears.

some people slow down when there are large jumps (left hand) or more difficulty passage...and of course, repeated notes are difficult to keep even. You are really good on keeping it together and really expressing greatness. Thank you for this performance. Edit: I have now watched many videos. I genuinely love this one the most!

For me, Olafsson was the only one to give this piece the right tempo, the regularity making it flow like a stream of clear water, the only one to reach its soul. Well, it looks like a second one has found the grail. Wonderful interpretation, carried by grace
@dubhmor2 жыл бұрын
I love Olafsson's version too, but his tempo to me gives the piece a more romantic feel. While this version feels darker and closer to the original. Personally this is my favorite.
@robjamieson7981 Жыл бұрын
Olafsson attempted a highwire act, but didn't quite pull it off. Too many mistakes and imprecisions. This is much more technically adept, but I think Namekawa still takes it.
@jakub.pianist Жыл бұрын
he is just extremely overrated sorry. this guy plays so much better
@Lksz-l9k Жыл бұрын
@@robjamieson7981 Namekawa sounds too robotic for me. This one is balanced, both technical and emotional.
@ryanphelan6861 Жыл бұрын
@@robjamieson7981there were pauses in there in time where if it was jazz he could make it swing : ) but they were just fractions of time missed or as you said imprecision. It's creative but it's not Philip glass reason why her versions are under Philip glass banner. I love this version though my favorite in dynamics builds and flows why I love gilels he's the man who would have mastered this. Maki to me is to glass like Horowitz to Rachmaninoff where composer loved how she heard the song and in his head even though it's his music that's how he wants it to sound. Sorry to ramble beautiful by all but I was lucky enough to see him in 90 s at Carnegie Hall. He's incredible and we what a venue the sound is just so rich people were noticably emotional

This is amazing technical playing! Maki Namekawa is brilliant at Glass’s etudes as well, but I REALLY love the effort and seeming ease with which you play this. Any chance of a recording or video of Glass’s 12th Etude? Thank you for sharing this with the world, sir!

I would love to learn this piece, but it's impossible on my Roland keyboard. The keys bounce back extremely slowly which prevents you to play repeated notes fast.

I don't understand, and I would totally disagree, Glass wrote semiquaver = 132, here it's more than 210, the sound is clear and nice, but the piece is not the same, try 132 and feel the difference.
