“A book about a good son is interesting. A book by a good son is slanted.” Awesome quote.

I enjoy he’s an intellectual, and uses easily understood words.

Thank you so much to 'ForceSeventeen' for sharing this Phillip Roth interview. This is one of his greatest performances and well done to Kirsty Wark for asking those brilliant questions.

You're absolutely right --in the earlier interviews I've seen with Roth he's not quite as engaged as he is here.

He had a lovely timbre to his voice. I'm rather surprised by his personal warmth given how misanthropic his writing can be. Neat!

As a writer I perfectly undestand what he means when he speaks about panic, frustration, not knowing what to write next. Writing is a painful ride, let me tell you, even if you are a good author. The whole process is a long frustrating journey and once you arrive to the finish you hope you didn't lose all that time writing garbage.

This is a pretty good show. Philip Roth has completely stopped writing. He is a fascinating man.

sean craine perhaps he was thinking about asking her "Are you game?" and giving her his phone number on a slip of paper. That'd be a nice parallel between life and fiction.
