I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (May 2, Easter 5), this was our First Reading of the Day. During the Season of Easter, our First Readings come from The Book of Acts instead of the Old Testament.

Yes, God is indeed Sovereign, but he created man in their image to have dominion (not over men) in the earth, and for that man must have free will.

Why the SUN coming out of the tomb instead of the SON of God? Does anyone realize that Catholicism is a continuation of SUN worship from ancient times? Why do many protestant churches still use this imagery and symbolism?

You were chosen to teach me about Acts 8, about this section of scripture and you refused to teach the scripture. 36 minutes you spent of your time and my time. Did you think this passage was so unimportant that you only had to read it and not explain it. You spent so much effort on the high quality of Phillip. Was that what this whole passage is about? Is Phillip's high quality what I am to glean from this? I stopped your talk and read and re-read it. There seems to be a bit more there than what you are presenting. I know that I am not as knowledgeable as you. You are a great teacher and I understand that Phillip is to be praised. In my humble reading, I picked up on a couple of other points that might have been missed. 1. This Ethiopian person was taught the gospel, but he didn't go away rejoicing. 2. He accepted this teaching and made evident to Phillip. 3. It appears that in the teaching of this gospel of salvation, baptism was important enough for them to stop and make it happen right then. And, as you pointed out, Phillip was miraculously moved away after the Ethiopian was baptized and then, at this point the rejoicing took place. Two questions, please? 1. Why did the Ethiopian rejoice after baptism, not after the teaching, nor his belief of the teaching? 2. If God thought this was important enough to put it into the Bible, why did shorten it in your request for the lost ones? You may not have noticed, but you left off baptism in your explanation. Being a Baptist, don't you encourage a person to be baptized so that he can go away rejoicing, like the Ethiopian? Please, help me to understand my ignorance.

When Phillip preached to him JESUS it is very clear that he taught him about Baptism. All the text says is that he preached to him JESUS . JESUS said “ the words that I have spoken will judge you in the last day.” So naturally when the Ethiopian and Phillip came to some water the Ethiopian REQUESTED water baptism. I’m sure while Phillip preached to him JESUS he told him the last thing JESUS told him before he ascended back into heaven , Mark 16:16 “ Go into all the world and preach the Gospel, he that believes and is baptized shall be saved, he that believeth not shall be damned.” I admonish you to believe the Gospel and be baptized. Just like the Ethiopian Eunuch and go on your way rejoicing . God Bless, I pray you read this comment.
