I second shoot weddings sometimes and hear over and over "How do you keep locked onto your subjects? My other second shooters using Sony the focus jumps around". I just tell them "Manual autofocusing". Ever since Philip first used the term (probably on the FX9 review) I've adopted it both into how I explain autofocus, and more importantly in how I use autofocus. It's very rare I miss autofocus except in extreme low light or if people are constantly crossing in front of my subject. Those are the situations I've flip back to manual in, but 95% of my event work and even typical corporate work is in Autofocus on my FX3. If the FX6 ever becomes easier to get ahold of I'm sure I'll be picking one up...maybe in 2025? lol.

Great work as always making a dry subject entertaining and informative! I've only had V2.0 on my FX6 for a few hours and so far it is a very worthwhile upgrade.... but I need to practice "Manual Autofocus" with it and the speed and sensitivity settings. I've sent some coffees to help get you through the (no doubt) endless list of videos to make. I'm especially looking forward to your Xperia Pro-I review and how the hell to get 50fps out it to match the FX6 because I've failed. It's either that or we all give up and shoot NTSC frame rates .... the horror!

Thanks for the video Philip. Unfortunately in this update there isn't 100 fps 4K DCI output like a 7 year old FS5 can do (even for a few seconds). I hope Sony can make it happen.
@philipbloom
@philipbloom 2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure how you are complaining about that! The camera can record internally in UHD 100fps continually, not 4 seconds. If you want to output it can also do continuously in raw via SDI UHD. Yeah, it is not DCI but I would rather have continuous UHD rather than 4 seconds DCI 4k!

Anyone have a hard time matching the A1 and FX6? When I'm lighting with daylight, Ive found it's best to have the FX6 on 5500k and A1 on 6100k w a megenta shift of 2.25. This +600 rule that I've created for myself has failed a couple times though on outdoor conditions and when lighting with warmer lights. Anyone have any suggestions on how to better match these? Hey Phillip, don't know if you respond to these, but I am a Canon Cinema EOS C70 and Canon EOS R3 shooter. That said, I've shot with many cameras the past two years, and these two are what stuck. Anyways, I ordered an FX3, receive it tomorrow, because I want a small run-n-gun travel Camera -- and the fx3 seemed to be the best ticket. My question to you, hope you answer, is if you think sometime in the future that the FX3, being in the cinema line, will receive a V.2.0 update as well? Maybe not ALL the features of this one... but that would be cool. But, what do you think? Thanks.

@AndrewKuttor 2 жыл бұрын
@@philipbloom haha. Ok ok. fX3 ahem. I am a software developer. Being in this field I can’t help to recognize although the two cameras are the same, the A7SIII and FX3, they aren’t the same “development-wise” - meaning they both are on different software versions, using different “branches” of Sony’s Mirrorless OS. On top of that they are on different “update cycles” - case-in-point, A7SIII just received an update whereas the FX3 didn’t. I suspect they might separate the two a bit now. It would make complete sense from a company side of things. Encourage people two buy both. Just my thoughts.

Face registration becoming touch tracking is a no no. Yes, I agree with you on having it as an option than being it the only way. Great video!

Thank you for another wonderful video. As I watch this video I can’t All but think, how unbelievably And crazily complex and complicated I digital cameras have become. When I look back and think of 35 mm movie cameras, the simplicity of them compared to what we have now is just absolutely colossal. You learn to load the film, you’ll learn to expose, you’ll learn the basics of the camera that are really just the basics of mechanical photography and you are set to produce the most beautiful images in the world no digital camera can even try to touch. Today? You need a 1000 page manual to run these cameras that get upgraded every three months along with with their video editors and the endless accessories and protocols that go along with them. Some say we are moving forward, I personally say we are going nowhere. because you pick up a 20, 30, 50, 60-year-old movie camera, and if you know the basics of photography and mechanics, you can work with them and produce imagery of astonishing beauty. But now you pick up a camera then you need a months worth of training and practice, that will be constantly upgraded, that will be replaced a couple of years later with something else and deemed redundant.. and all just seems a grand waste of time to me. It only takes for me to watch camera reviews of five or six years ago, those cameras look ridiculous, dated, and worth no one‘s time. But an old movie camera, no matter how old, it’s actually never old and will work today just as it did yesterday with basically no training required if you know your art. again thanks for the review, as always the best on KZbin, and as always too good for KZbin :)

Just because film cameras were simpler doesn't mean the whole process was simpler. Buying, loading, storing, developing, telecine, etc were all "extra" work compared to digital. They just happened outside the camera. Digital now also surpasses film in almost every aspect of performance so for many it IS the simpler choice.

Thank you. To be fair you can easily operate this camera like that. Stick to the base ISO set everything to manual and record audio externally, syncing with a clapperboard!

@@philipbloom Philip I absolutely understand your point, and I am sure you absolutely understand mine. For what’s worth, you are making life easier to thousands of worldwide users of these cameras with your videos and the incredible detailed information and views you provide with them. I watch your work, never for the technicalities of the specific products you are reviewing, but for your art as a filmmaker and a storyteller, that in my opinion is unmatched by anyone else on this platform. Thank you again for what you do and for how well you do it 🎥
