Unless the non-billionaires wake the fuck up and organize and shut this system down, they are going to keep peeling away our chances for a comfortable human existence on this planet for the 8 billion souls that the billionaires need to make their absurd piles of gold more absurd. And we especially don't know what kind of domino effects this mining could have on the shallower side of the sea. For ex. some swishes might swim between close by depths to each other. That's just not true. You cannot recover lithium from used electronics, and recycling materials from old electronics does not yield the amount of resources needed for the green energy transition. It's not that simple, and if we care about the environment, we should acknowledge that.
@atrutionАй бұрын
@@joehavermann7729 TLDR: Lithium is recyclable, current market models make it more expensive than trashing used materials. Which is also impart to such processes not being properly funding allowing scale projects to match. The biggest inhibitor towards recycling of lithium isn't that it can't be recovered, but that lithium battery formats are so varied and constantly changing which makes it difficult to create a proper recycling process. This is a burden that should be on not just lithium battery producers but all such tech manufacturers. They should be required to have a process for stripping materials for recycling if not made to fund creation of a building/machines for such a process. The haphazard lack of regulation for producers, should not be protected over the environment, especially given how lucrative the companies producing these goods are. At the very least such manufacturers should be taxed to provide funding for projects that seek to recycle these precious metals, as under the current market and international governance systems it has not been worth developing these processes, so not only are they rare, but can not possibly work at large scale as they would need to. In addition planned obsolescence which has been common practice has done much to accelerate the problem and those responsible have faced no consequences. Hard to believe we can make much progress on a lot of these problems without those responsible even shouldering blame.

When it should really be compared to processing mined ore vs "recycled ore" into pure metals or alloys. Which ofc gets ppl into the issues of upfront costs of building that recycle processing infrastructure in the first place when we already have the mining processing infrastructure. The Victorian industrialists would smack the shit out of the current industrialists for not capitalizing on such an obvious opportunity in spite of upfront capital investment.

Sometimes guilty people get off scott free, sometimes they get shorter sentences than they should. If we see issues that lead to these results, that’s what we have to get mad about, that’s what we have to fight. If we instead choose to disregard the state’s monopoly on violence we call into question the very basis of our society. The IOC is also correct in letting countries decide who to represent them. It is acceptable to serve time, 'rehabilitate' and allowed a return to societal norms to a degree, but not as a role model in the context of international acclaim. Van De Velde should ABSOLUTELY be banned form the Olympics. How are we even talking about this?
@arkainin4638Ай бұрын
Ohh! I see. So people who serve their time are not full citizens then? We get to claim everyone is a free and clear citizen once they did their time, but in practice, we're going to hold it over them for the rest of their lives and anytime they do anything of note smack them down. By your logic, anyone sentenced for a crime can't do anything of note, ever. Write a book? Nope, banned. Become an actor? Nope, banned. Take part in any activity in a public manner? Nope, banned. While we're at it, let's just drop the pretense and not let them live in nice enough houses or make more than a certain amount of money. I mean, we don't want them to look too good now, do we. As someone from the Netherlands, the age of consent here is 16. Which is already messed up. It's why a ("new, cool, young and hip") teacher of mine in HS got caught with a 16 year old and got away with being fired, only we learned that the reason he was fired from his previous teaching job, was the exact same reason. He was caught with a 16 year old student. But it's even worse in Germany, it's only 14. It revolts me that this Diddler gets away with only a year in prison and now gets to have a successful career. It makes my stomach turn, that authorities are SO desperate for a worthless sports medal they would allow a known child abuser to compete in the olympics. She was 12 .. 12!
@deirenneАй бұрын
Here in Poland the age of consent is lower, 15, BUT we also have a separate law about abusing the position of trust and dependence, which includes relation between the teachers and their students, so even if the student is legally able to consent, it's still an abuse, because f*cking obviously it is.
@WindmelodieАй бұрын
Though to clarify on the Germany situation, age of consent being 14 does NOT mean that any adult can diddle a kid. We have pretty strict laws about that, too. 14 is still an age where adults can easily groom and abuse them. However, age of consent in this regard means it's not illegal for 14 year olds to do the deed with other 14 year olds up to age 16. So 14 year olds can legally do it with 14-16 year olds and while most don't because it's pretty young, it is still seen as part of natural teenage behaviour. If you're 16, you can do it with 14-18 year olds. And once you're 18, you can do it with 16-XXX year olds, but not younger. Our age of consent basically just means "hey, we know you teenagers are h*rny af by nature, so we will give you a legal way of exploring with those of the same age while still protecting you from adults." Otherwise, any incident of, let's say, a 15 and 16 year old teenage couple doing the deed would technically be a criminal charge.

@3choblast3r4Ай бұрын
@@WindmelodieSo that's actually not true at all. I had to do some research and I'm pretty sure I'm on some list now lol. Those age brackets make no sense. A 16 year and older person is only banned from sleeping with 16 and under if they are "trusted with the care or education of the 14/16 year old" (which is not really ever a thing) same for 21 and older for 14. Because that automatically falls under exploiting or coercing for German law apparently. But if you have no such responsibility towards a 14 / 16 year old. And if the child consents. Then it's allowed even if you're 21+ So the age of consent is 14. With some minor protections against teachers and other people responsible over children. But after 16 there is no such protection either.

I see a ton of people trying to say that person is rehabilitated after serving their crime. Putting aside that, a crime like that has lifetime consequences outside of prison limiting things like where you can live or your job, for example you cannot work at a school. We are simply saying the consequences should extend to representing your country in sports to also protect reputation and to not send the wrong message to the victims and would be offenders.
@arkainin4638Ай бұрын
Okay, but there is no significant risk factor toward representing your country-while there is one for working in a school. You can't really compare the two. One is a reasonable step to protect children, the other is a moral judgment you are making that someone is not good enough to take part in something based on nothing more than moral indignation. As far as sending the wrong message: All data shows that offenders of this nature get better by being accepted back into society and being given a place within it. Oppressing and shoving them to the corners of society is how you get reoffenders. This is a person who committed a horrible act a decade ago, served their time, and went through the process. They are not the same person as they were then and as a society, we need to allow people to change rather than hold their worst act over them. And, if you want to stop them from taking part, while I disagree, I think private institutions can make rules to prevent it. Not invent rules at the moment to bar specific individuals already involved.
@G33KSP34KАй бұрын
@@arkainin4638 I do agree with you, but that still doesn't change the fact that they put up a child rapist to represent their country. Is he rehabilitated? I hope so, I seriously do. That does not mean that others have to suddenly forgive them. Justice for crimes is not forgiveness, its payment for the crime you did, to stop you from reoffending. If I run a business, I'm not going to hire someone who has been convicted of fraud before. If I ran a law firm, I wouldn't hire someone who lost their license in a different state. If I ran a school, I would not hire anyone who has any crimes against children. We have laws about this. Simply put, the justice system does not forgive you for your crimes. No private citizen has to treat you any differently just because your spent time in jail for your crimes.
@arkainin4638Ай бұрын
@@G33KSP34K Again though, that's a false equivalence. You'd not hire someone convicted of fraud because it is a threat to your business as they directly relate to the work they do. Just as I think it reasonable and right to not hire a felon of this sort for a job teaching kids. I would, however, hire someone convicted of fraud for any non-financial or sensitive document role. Just as I would hire a reformed SA offender for a role not involving kids or vulnerable people. No private citizen has to do anything, you're right, but this is not about private citizens, this is about an org that gets massive funding and is in large part organized by a government. In addition, as for private citizens, you need to ask yourself, do you want to live in a society where we reform and treat convicts so they can be the best they can be in society, or keep them under thumb until they die because it makes us feel good to punch down on someone who did something bad? Even if you take morals out of it: objectively, allowing offenders to reintegrate and take part in society is proven to decrease likelihood of re-offense to the point in which they are the least likely of all felons to recommit.

Maybe that’s the only instance he specifically was involved with, but rape, statutory rape, and sexual assault, etc does impact millions of people. If you can ban someone for an opinion supporting a war that impacts millions, then I’d argue that you can ban someone who commits a heinous act on one person that millions of others have suffered from.

Here's the problem I see with the trans stuff. From what it looks like, Chris did all this while he was a man and was not speaking to minors after the change. Therefore, wouldn't it actually be logical to say Chris was speaking inappropriately to children when he was a man, but not as a transwoman? It's wrong no matter who does it, but I find it strange to say "Ava" did something before "Ava" even existed.
@KusagrassАй бұрын
The problem is that you are trying to please your political enemies. The people that are over reacting are the same ones that would never accept trans, it’s hilariously ironic that those that are angry are mainly centrist and republicans and they continue to defend Doc. It’s all just pointless culture war, and selectively getting angry at things for their own community.

@@Icarus07c I just read a article about this and I think this sum it up perfectly the report by the Ministry of Justice, there is also no information at all on what type of offences the identified trans prisoners are doing time for. Even the charity Fair Play for Women states: “There is no official information published on the type of offences committed by inmates so I read that part so I thought to myself I'll go read the study so I did and this appears that they in fact have 0 clue what they did just what cell block they live in and 46 of the total 113 self identified trans woman are in protective custody which just means that your government thinks that trans people need protection if you don't think trans woman would need protection in prison then you can't see the forest though the trees

As a trans person... The thumbnail almost gave me a heart attack. If someone that big had come out as attributing Ava's behavior to her transness we would all be so socially fucked (even more than we already are) just by association.

I think she got dumped on instead of any attempt at neutral investigation or defense in large part because she is trans. The perception of bad behavior is amplified a million times by prejudice against trans that unfairly frames them as deviants.

At fifty years of age I can honestly say I have no faith in the justice system. From being ticketed for doing the speed limit in Liberty Hill, Texas, to watching a coworker and his wife go to prison for taking their child outside of Oklahoma for medical care to a rapist and his buddies walking away from a sentence clean in Elizabethtown Kentucky, the justice system has failed just about everyone I've known repeatedly in so many ways.

Its even worse: the Dutch judge made the sentence even lower because he considered it Fornication, rather than Rape, and then he got let out after being in prison for just over a year in total... And now the stance of the Volleyball Committee is that he was a dumb teen doing dumb things, and that he did his time... There's been a lot of backlash in the Netherlands for a while, but now International Media are also picking up the story, and hopefully the Dutch Olympic Committee will feel the pressure and remove him from the roster.

I'd love to know why we aren't talking about the presence of Israeli former soldiers who participated in an active genocide being allowed to participate in the Olympics. I'd love to see more about that, but we don't talk about Gaza on this channel often enough when the people there are suffering daily. It sucks seeing it not get covered here, even as part of a live like you already do or a secondary mini show, so it won't get the main show suppressed.

Palestinians welcomed immigrants with open arms, until they realized the intent was to displace. I hope you can find peace, supporting monsters who bomb civilians and cut off food and water access for the crime of being Palestinian. If this is a war, which it is not, what did the children do to earn being chronically starved, picked off with bullets to the head, and bombed when they just want to live. I promise, nothing you can come up with will justify the murder of innocent civilians.

As someone who has personally experienced SA, the mere thought of that person being paraded around and praised on a worldwide scale would make me feel like any justice I may have received was just a tickbox.
