Please watch: "The ONE Thing Every Christian Should Be Doing But Most Are NOT!"
• The ONE Thing Every Ch... -~-
Hey what's up everyone, today we conclude our series in the book of Philippians chapter 4. And I want to break this up into three parts. First, there is a prayer we need to pray. Second, there is a principle we need to learn. Finally there is a promise we need to claim.
Prayer to Pray
1. Command
a. Do not be anxious - the word means to be pulled in so many directions
b. Why? Anxiety is the number one thing that will steal and rob us of joy.
2. Pray
a. About everything - This lets us know that God is concerned about the most minute details of our lives.
b. Petition - Specific request for benefit
c. Thanksgiving - Grateful acknowledgement of God’s blessing
3. Result
a. Peace exchange - “You give me your weight and in exchange I’ll give you my peace.”
i. This peace is the result of knowing that you are transferring the weight from you to God and you’re putting the ball in God’s court and you can now hold God to fulfill His promises to you.
ii. It will surpass all human understanding and comprehension.
iii. Peace OF God - It’s a peace that ONLY God can give to you that the world won’t understand. It’s the result of knowin
iv. This peace will guard your heart (from wrong feelings) and your mind (from wrong thinking).
4. Principle to Learn
a. Contentment - The first thing that we notice is that Paul said that he “learned” how to be content in all circumstances which means this is NOT something that just happens overnight. This is something that is learned over time and through experience.
b. The key to his contentment was twofold.
i. POWER: Christ who gave him the strength. Phil. 4:13 has been one of the most misquoted verses in the Bible. People rip this verse out of content to suggest that we can do anything we put our minds to like run a marathon, become a doctor, become a professional athlete. But Paul isn’t referring to any of that. Rather, he is talking about being able to be content whether he’s ballin’ on top or struggling to provide.
ii. PERSPECTIVE #1: Paul clearly had the right perspective on material things. In 1 Tim. 6:6-8 he says, “we came into the world with nothing and we will leave with nothing. So with food and clothing I’ll be content.” Now I admit I’m not there yet! But because Paul had the right perspective he was able to experience contentment.
iii. PERSPECTIVE #2: Secondly, Paul understood that temptations come with both being rich and being poor. It’s interesting here that Paul said he had to “learn how to be content being rich.” He understood that when you’re rich you will experience different temptations. First, to feel self-sufficient and to trust in your wealth rather than in God. And secondly the temptation to be greedy because once you get a taste of wealth you want more and more. If you’re poor you may be prone to steal or resort to unethical means to provide for yourself (see Prov. 30:7-9).
c. LESSON: It’s easy for us to be content when we have more than enough. The true test of our faith is how we respond in the low seasons when our change is strange and our money is funny.
Promise to Claim
1. Paul says here that God will supply all of our needs. The problem is that we get our needs mixed up with our greeds.

These videos are great. I struggle with being good enough for Heaven. But I know it's not works, it's faith in Christ to save us alone.

Only Jesus makes us good enough. We aim towards holiness by his power, but then when we mess up there is Grace and the new covenant where he became our righteousness - of which we do not deserve.

Faith without works is DeadJames 2:14-26 King James Version 14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. 24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

@@brandyreynolds4549 you could say faith without works is being dead in the water. You aren't going to go anywhere in life or bring the light of Christ to others. You're always saved by faith but we all should strive to be productive Christians.

Please pray for me because I struggle to be content with myself. I'm always on a diet and comparing myself to everyone else. I know God made me how he wanted me to be, but there's just so many doubts in my mind which leads me wanting to change myself in order to please people. Please pray that God will help me find my peace and joy in him and not in the acceptance of people🙏

It's easy to remain content when your needs are met, not so much when it's not. Though Acts would suggest God's not partial, evidence would say otherwise as some are blessed more than others.

Man I loved this series on Philippians. It has been a blessing and I have took much of this material into my Sunday school class as a teacher. With that said, I think there is a mistake in the video towards the end. You put Prov 30:7-9 on the screen when you were talking about "As to you Philippians....." at the 6:05 mark in the video. I think that was supppsed to be Philippians 4:15 though. No? God Bless.

Am I crazy to think when I’m reading the Bible, it’s talking to me? How will I know that Paul is just talking to the Philippians and not directly at me? I feel emotion when I read it but am just being a narcissist? Sometimes I read the Bible and I’m filled with joy only to be followed by self doubt later.

Very strange question. You are walking towards the wrong path. Everywhere there is a parable, like the gospels, it’s clearly stated. Unless it’s stated in Revelations that the book is metaphorical, then it’s not. This is the sort of question that an unbeliever would ask.

By the end of the video I have a hard time recollecting what you said, so please pause, tell a funny story of some sort or joke, this will help me to remember what you have said and keep coming for more! Hello Allen. In Pilippians 4:17 it says: Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. NIV What account is Paul referring to and more of what?
@thebeatagp
@thebeatagp 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Anna! Thanks so much for that insightful question. So, what I believe Paul has in mind here is our heavenly "account." In other words, when we give to others we are storing up "treasures" in heaven (Mt. 6:19). In other words, we are accumulating heavenly rewards when we give to other people. So, Paul was encouraging them that their gift to him is accruing heavenly "credit" or rewards in their favor. I hope this helps.
@thebeatagp
@thebeatagp 6 жыл бұрын
Great question! Essentially this "account" that Paul is referring to would be something like a running tab of righteousness that only God is keeping track of obviously for the purpose of rewarding us one day. So Paul says he desires that more be credited to their "heavenly rewards" account. One of the ways they could do that would be by supporting his ministry financially. However, Paul said what was more important was for them to have increase in their spiritual account. So sorry for the delay. I just struggle to keep up with all the comments. God bless you,

I was just wondering, since I started reading the bible more serious about two months ago from the Old Testament all the way up to the New Testament in order, right now I'm in 2 Kings. I started on his journey hoping to get to know God more and reconnect with him. And for him to let me know that he's with me, basically I want a sign from him.

We ask and receive not, beca we ask amiss, that we may consume it upon our lusts. Cleanse your hands ye sinne, purify your hearts ye double minded, a double minded man is unstable in all his ways. If we keep God's commandments, we assure our hearts before God, then we have confidence that what we ask he hears us. Faith worketh by love, to love God is to keep his commandments. If we keep not his commandments, how dwelleth the love of God in us, when we have this world's goods, and withhold them from our brother who hath need. If we show no mercy, we shall receive no mercy. Do the works that God has prepared beforehand Eph2. This is a seal of our righteousness, therefore be not deceived, he that doeth righteousness is righteous. The effectual fervent prayers of a righteous man availeth much. Faith is confidence, faith is trust, and because we have faith, we know with a tranquil heart that that God hears us. It is not a blind leap, we know, if we believe and doubt not. Have faith in God, he is faithful and changes not. Grace and peace be multiplied through the knowledge of God and of Christ. Apprehend that for which we have been apprehended. Lay hold of the promises of God.

Kinda crazy how Christians can minimize the riches of God to only being the bare minimum provision 😂😂 honestly at that point what's the difference between what I can provide myself? I'm so confused

anything that we have on this world is an earthly possession, and when we die, none of it will be coming with us. what god can provide us is so great, so wonderful and so beautiful that with jesus, its like we lost nothing at all

@@Bubsack101 that doesn't mean we gotta live in lack. I feel that's why God was so close to those who has nothing. That's not the way it is supposed to be, even though it's not coming with us God blessed His children. David, Job and all kinds of prophets. I don't believe God brought people here for them to suffer and be without. Jesus solves the problem of sin and our lives are up to us to work at.

@@isaiahaskew5753 its interesting that you bring up the book of job. Satan said that job only loved him because you he gave him much wealth and family. but god claimed that this wasn't the truth, and allowed Satan to take everything from job. yet job stayed faithful to god. it is important to remember that god isnt the one causing the evils of this world.

@@Bubsack101 but Ecclesiastes book talks about how everyone doesn't get what they deserve. That this world and universe is too complex to suggest that just because you're under God you'll have a good life. Most of the time it's opposite

@@Bubsack101 Job actually accused God of being a monster and God gave him everything back after they had a discussion. It's deeper than just be faithful and God will bless you. Not how this works
