Why they always say setting the old score. That's not it. AbsCbn has been unfair on paying taxes. Paying only half a billion accumulated in 3 yrs. while there counterpart GMA has been paying taxes in billions every yr. A questionable owner Gabby Lopez saying he is a full pledge Filipino where infact he is a dual citizen and his Philippine birth Cert. doesn't have the date of birth in it. Continue operating there own blackbox when NTC said to stop. At first there enemy was Calida after that they were given due process and a hearing in the congress. Then there enemy were the congress opposition. That's normal there will always be oppositions cause it is a hearing on the renewal of franchise. I am from the Philippines and i love this channel when i was young, but as i grow older i realized how millions of filipino people were deceived and badly programmed by this channel. There will be thousand of people who will lose their job but also thousands of ex employees have been given justice they deserved for being exploited. Even before Pres. Duterte took over as president, this channel had faced so many cases already due to LABOR issues but only this current admin has the balls to tackle the issue because ABS is one of the most powerful corp in the Philippines and they remained untouched for so many years. Dear DW News, I love your organization's contents since when I was a kid because they were hugely informative of different news and facts around the globe. But now I'm starting to think about that. What I'm about to say reflects the astounding and well-deserved amount of dislikes your video has earned. "Freedom of the press" and "freedom of speech" is not equal to irresponsibility and subjectivity, especially for media networks since they were permitted to present information to the public at the national level, in a way that will help us determine and have an understanding of the truth. However, truth is a sensitive thing and that's why everyone must make an effort to present all facts from both/all sides (unbiased) of a certain event. If one fails to present information in such a way, misunderstanding may occur in the public's minds and might therefore lead to unwanted actions or activities. Our Congress made the decision based on facts, not because they wanted to keep someone's mouth shut and get back at the network for not airing the president's campaign ads back in 2016. However none of these facts were even mentioned on this interview by the anchor nor the correspondent. But I think its no wonder, I've always expected the international media to be clueless of what's happening in a certain country, be it the Philippines or another country. I dunno why that is - could either be poor research or that they were only interested in making headlines so they discarded the content that would make their news lengthy and boring for people to consume. But what I can say is the international media and the international community can never tell with accuracy the exact circumstances in a certain country unless they live and do research in the country themselves, not by reading news articles online and definitely not by picking up a single correspondent on the matter. Also, ABS-CBN is not the only network here in the Philippines capable of providing relevant information to the public and they're definitely not the best when they were still around, they're not everything we had on TV as grossly implied in this video. Also sure the network had employees but only a few of the figure mentioned here even get paid for what they're worth. I'm thinking those that actually get paid are some of the protesters here on the clip included in this video. Also, fun fact: the government being accused of being "anti-press" and a tyrant has helped millions of Filipinos during this pandemic and is still hard at work to get better on doing just that. All of that despite local critics trying to look for holes they can exploit for their own political gains. Now why isn't that in international news? Fellow Filipinos, give this comment a like so everyone who sees it gets a bit of the actual truth that's happening in our beloved country. Edit: Also I just have to say, you should think twice before taking correspondence from anyone, such as from someone who assumes facts and stating "- this is Martial Law 2020." The Filipino public is still sane to cause major unrest in the midst of a pandemic and even if there weren't we still won't, we're educated enough and we know our government. You should notice in that video clip of protesters, there were less than a hundred people which I can assume are all ABS-CBN employees who lost their well-paying jobs, and a less than hundred protesting former employees is not enough rationale for martial law.

The Congressmen did their job and exposed the irregularities inside the abs cbn corporation hence they were not granted of a new franchise, there had been various hearings on the legislative franchise, even televised. It was not the doing of Pres Duterte whose focused is on the issue of Covid 19 and its impact to the lives of millions of Filipinos. As for Ressa, she was convicted for publishing malicious article against a private citizen, also never the doing of Pres Duterte. I think it is unfair that the president is always dragged on these kind of issues. Comparing to the previous presidents, i can say he is the best to seat in power.

Maria Ressa of Rappler is a former executive of ABIAS-CBN network who told former reporter Wheng Hidalgo that she will be working a new schedule from day time schedule to night time schedule. During this time, Wheng Hidalgo was pregnant.
