After fixing your flatform its better to plant on top of it a bermuda grass or carabao grass so that the soil will not be muddy and erode easily and it add to beautification of the pond area.

In our place by the way, Baguio, City, we reinforce our houses perimeter with big rocks, and stack them one after another like what your workers are doing, we call it Kabite. Since no rocks in your place mud is okay.
