PHILIPPINES: IMELDA MARCOS SENATE HEARING

Philippine senators have grilled the widow of dictator Ferdinand Marcos on her claims that her husband owned much of the Philippines,
In a hearing broadcast on nationwide television, she dodged most of the questions, invoking privilege.
The government has put claims on about 570 (m) million U-S dollars in Swiss deposits, now held in an account in a Philippine bank.
The Swiss accounts are also being claimed by nine thousand five hundred Filipinos who won a class action suit for human rights violations against the Marcos estate and were awarded 2 (b) billion U-S dollars in damages.
Draped in pearls and gold jewellery, the sixty-nine year-old who became famous for her massive shoe collection said her husband was not a thief instead that he had amassed his fortune through gold trading.
The senate hearing was broadcast live by a cable television company, allowing many Filipinos to see for the first time Mrs. Marcos being questioned about her family's wealth.
Marcos and her lawyers are reportedly planning to sue to recover at least 500 billion pesos (12.65 (b) billion U-S dollars) in equity in more than 100 top Philippine corporations allegedly entrusted by Marcos to his associates, who now refuse to return them to Marcos' heirs.
In the hearing, Marcos said she agreed to appear in the senate to seek the lawmakers' help in recovering her husband's assets.
She suggested the late president had wanted these turned over to the government for the benefit of all Filipinos.

One of the country's leading newspapers early this month ran a series of articles in which Marcos was quoted as having said her family owns much of the Philippines.
Senator Aquilino Pimentel, a former southern Philippine city mayor jailed by Marcos, asked whether it was true that she had given the interview.
She denied giving interviews and refused to identify the corporations and assets or the trustees used by her husband as fronts.
Senator Pimentel said that among the names she mentioned in the interview was the name of Lucie Otan.
But Imelda Marcos remained tight lipped.

After marcos became president he essentially built the nation by building hospitals, departments, etc. all for the benefit of the filipino people. He also initiated laws such as the Primary Health Care among others and vaccination for children, all for the benefit of the people. But why is there a brand of "ill-gotten wealth" when one hears a marcos name? it's because the philippine media who is funded by the oligarchy exploded countless of headlines since 1987 that marcos is this evil, marcos is that bad. It even got to the point that they were placed in a guinness record only because the aquino administration say that they stole money but they never provided any concrete evidence of this. But why is it that the Marcoses are rich? It's because the families of both Imelda and President Marcos are already rich. President Marcos was a genius (as everyone who lived to know him would say) and in that regard as early as 1960s or before so, he has already the knack of collecting gold, buying estates that he could foresee would double triple quadruple in value in the later years. Aside from that while he was president, he often receives gifts from other world leaders or admirers, especially with Imelda, she's received lots of jewelry and shoes and paintings. The oligarchy grew wary and jealous of the family, the communists who are terrorists saw him as a threat as everybody could see the great improvement in the country. Why was martial law implemented? Media says its because marcos is a demon that he wants to gain more power but in actuality, the martial law was implemented for several bombings happened in the country. Before those bombings, marcos knew of the imminent communist insurgency so he had mr. enrile analyze and research on martial law before implementing it. Contrary to what media would say, if you ask the elderly who lived during those years they would say that the martial law was the best because it was peaceful and that life went on as normally. Only criminals and communists fear the martial law. When he was ousted many were shocked and many cried but the media refuse to record or report any supporters of the president. During the people power revolution, many claimed it was a peaceful revolution. It was peaceful only because marcos refused to have his army shoot or blast artillery to the people even if his military advisors told him to do so (There's a video evidence of this). The true story of what happened can be heard in mr. enrile's interview with bongbong marcos as he tales what transpired during those times. In this video you'll hear imelda talking about the last will of the late president marcos. That will actually talks about how most of the marcos wealth are kept safe for the filipino people. Then you would ask, then why havent they opened it with all of the disasters that befell the country? it's because it has been stated in the will that it could only be open if a marcos is president. The reason for this is because president marcos, with all the betrayal that he has experienced as he was ousted and abducted to hawaii, he can only trust his family and especially his son with the wealth to whom he already foresee as the one who would continue his legacy (he had his son study PPE, join the military, be a governor of ilocos etc). If i were him i wouldnt trust anyone i havent met as well with this huge amount of money, who knows they would just place it in their pockets. I am one of the youths who were blinded by the propaganda of the media and the history books I've read. At first i hated the marcoses to which i regret for our history book as a child only says "Marcos is evil, a demon, a bad person" while "Cory is a saint." There is no mention of what the marcoses has done for the country only that martial law is bad and people died and cory has led (not true) the people power revolution and is the savior (in that regard, most people who died during martial law were either communists or were killed by communists). When i was in high school i found it highly suspicious that the aquinos claimed to be the good ones and the marcoses are bad as I was mature enough to know the last aquino president's autrocities. I've also realized that there has not been any real progress in the country since marcos's time. One big factor that had me in doubts of the legitimacy of history books is question: Why has the aquinos not investigated the death of the husband of cory aquino even when two aquinos already became president? so i did some digging from old videos on youtube to legal documents and insights from both parties. And heres what ive learned: the marcoses arent bad, and the aquinos arent good. If you want to learn more you could browse in youtube, for history books here that are deemed "legit" are biased and tainted by whatever the author wanted people to believe.
