Masbate - it's not so well documented. Known for its cattle ranches (it's the second largest producer of beef in the country), it also holds so many surprises - like beautiful beaches, coastline, mountains, and Bronze Age history!
My journey from one end of the island to the other was full of magical experiences - from Fazenda da Esperanza ranch, that helps rehabilitate former drug and alcohol addicts, in Milagros, to the majestic Matayum Lagoon in Cataingan.
What a fantastic island!

The positive side of Masbate is that tourism hasn't too much developed. It's real nature with very few foreigners. I came for the first time in 1991 to Masbate. My wife is from Masbate and now after 25 years living far away from Masbate we came back in 2016 for retirement. I love the nature and relaxed lifestyle of the people....but sometimes they are too relaxed. I think that in the future Masbate can offer more nature than other tourist cities which are overcrowded by tourists and pollution. The local government is doing right not pushing too hard the development of tourism.

It is because of geopolitics there that is why it is still a third class province. there was a time that the province was considered an election hotspot because of various killings of opposing political factions. nothing much have change it is sad that the politicians there control everything even its progress. Masbate has a lot to offer in tourism.

The main problem of that island is the NPA terrorist infestation. They may have been wiped out for now by the military and NTF-ELCAC and became inactive. But surviving members became motorcycle-riding hold-up men preying for lone motorists along the highways. That island has a moniker of being the Wild West of the Philippines, lose firearms are everywhere.

@@Gnihtemo nah! siargao has beautiful beaches only also famous for sufing but masbate also has nices beaches and historical landmarks it plus very beautiful landscapes good for cattle raising that is why there so many ranches there. magpunta ka muna sa masbate para malaman mo hehe.. puro ka siargao.

Masbate is one of those big islands in the Philippines that is not very well known. Very few vloggers explore that island. The place looks beautiful and peaceful.

Killings, hold-up by motorcycle-riding bandits along highways, and communist terrorist attacks are common in that island. It is very dangerous there during elections. There are too many illegal firearms in every towns.

Masbate is awesome... the incredible almost undeveloped shoreline, the deep green vegetations inland, the warmth of the locals, the second biggest beef producers in PH, and many more amazing things from one end to another is just mind-blowing. You, Kulas and other travel vloggers are lucky. As late as 10 yrs ago, you couldn't do that, travel to the far reaches of the countryside because of peace and order. Back in 1985, right after HS, I got the travel bug. But I couldn't, lest I like to be a statistics. Back in 1992, I took a bus ride in Jose Abad Santos going to the end of its line. Norzagaray. Upon arrival, I was noticed by the store owner where I inquired something. He told me i must go home at 4pm as I wouldn't want to be in any trouble later on with Taong Labas (people from the outside). Good thing it's different now. A lot more free going for all of us.

The cow is never going to bite you but if you hold you hand with fingers out they will half swallow your hand, licking and sucking-----it is a bit hard to eat beef after a day with those big wet noses and big eyes.. What an enchanting island, not really spoiled by tourism but plenty to see

The best time to visit Masbate is after the holy week in the 1st or 2nd week of April because of the Rodeo Festival. Also include to your list the water falls that water plunges directly to the sea, and Buntod Reef also which is very close from Masbate City.

If you can see a very big island then correct that's Samar. But there are small islands closer to Cataingan like Tagapul-an and Almagro which are part of Samar.
