Philippines-US forces sink warship in S China Sea military drills

Philippine and US troops have sunk a decommissioned Navy ship in waters near the South China Sea.
It was part of this year’s Balikatan war games, the largest edition of the annual joint exercises.
It takes place amid escalating tensions in the region.

The reporter says that they were using the ship for target practice for a few hours, so they were probably using dummy warheads until the exercise was over and the jet used actual bombs

Purpose of Sink Exercise (SinkEx) is to train on hitting targets accuracy, thus to save on targets (decommissioned ships), dummy missiles/rounds are often used until the end of the SinkEx. Most navies around the world uses this principle.
