You skipped two important topics: VISAs and women. VISA management in Thailand is like hell, while in the Philippines it's vastly more permissive. Women: they are a main reason to move over those countries. Finding a traditional woman to marry is simpler in the Philippines and their culture is closer (not close, but closer) to ours than Thais.

As a Bangkok local, I’ll suggest if you plan to stay in Thailand long term you’d better learn some basic Thai, just like living in Japan or Spain where English language is an alternative. If the language barrier matters to you, no patience to communicate and no interest to learn a new stuff, then just go for the PH, or Thai town in Los Angeles instead.

I went in thailand 6 months already and in philippines also. For me Thailand is better if you compare prices of accomodation, but food in my case in Siquijor island was better in Philippines than in Pattaya in Thailand. Everything depends about prices. Now i am in pattaya and honestly, if you want choose farang food like international (indian, pizza) its much more expensive in Thailand. You can find many good restaurant with foreigner food and it will be cheaper than in Thailand. Of course, standard and almost everything is more developed in Thailand but its hell with visa and language. In pattaya everyone should talk english Its famous destination in Thailand but not. MUch more hassle is open a business in Thailand. For me in future Philippines can be better than thailand.

I agree with you. Thai laws doing their best to give hard time for long time stayers like retirement visa. You have to extended every year,every 90 days go and show yourself to immigration,every time when you leave thailand get reentry permit( what a bull shit.I have already visa so why should get re entry permit each time ?) You have keep hude depisit in the bank and every month certain amount of money must come in to that bank account. Bla,bla,bla,bla. Forget about getting permanent visa,forget about doing small self employed business,forget about even buying home ( 51 % must be in thai name) Even if you marry to woman you have get yearly visa ! ! , re entry permit, huge deposit must be kept in the bank. Simply, what i am saying to thailand is. F. Off. What do you think you are? You have only the easiest women. That is all. Good byeeeee thailand.

@spenceabroad7960 Yes. On a UK passport you get 30 days on arrival and then can extend for another 29 days. After that you just go to a local immigration office and extend again every few months up to 3yrs. Obviously with fees. You can then book a cheap return flight to say Singapore, Bangkok, Malaysia etc and start the process again.

What I noticed about Filipino food is a lot of the dishes require condiments to make them taste good. Like the vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and chili mixture that Filipinos make themselves when dining. The problem is, nobody tells foreign tourists how to make it. A lot of times, they just end up eating the dish plain, without rice. Filipino food is too salty to be eaten without rice. And it's usually bland without the condiments. So somebody should explicitly explain to foreign tourists how to eat the food

BGC+Makati blow all of Bangkok out of the water. Only thing it needs to is more train lines. There are only 2 lines passing by Makati but they're old train lines. But they're building a subway line in Makati. Also, when you talk about nature, the Philippines is way more mountainous. Whenever I see a You Tuber pit my country the Philippines against another country, I can't help but get curious. I try to wrap my head around what's in it for them and then what's in it for us Filipinos because all of us Filipinos already recognize that we are not perfect, far from it even. But despite that, we are relentless in improving our country. Matter of fact, the Philippines right now is undergoing tons of massive infrastructure projects, the ones that will address some of the concerns raised in the video like mass transit. But were those mentioned in the video? No. Does it need to be? Seems like it given the topic. I just hope the next time somebody says he believes he knows the country well enough that he truly, really, unquestionably, know the country well enough to give a well rounded information. I bet you've been to less than 5 carenderia and you feel you're expert enough to know everything there is to know about the Philippine cuisine. The Philippines 7641 islands each with its distinct culinary profile and on that basis alone, I would highly question on your credentials to call yourself a judge of our cuisine and no eating in a handful of carenderias hardly qualifies you as an expert.
@hdcordes6299
@hdcordes6299 Жыл бұрын
This comment and the people that make them is EXACTLY what is wrong with the Philippines. I like the Phils and for me, I personally choose the Phils over Thailand. However, that does not change the fact that Thailand wins in the categories of infrastucture, sanitation and food. If you are trying to debate that, you are either a liar or never been to Thailand. "I bet you've been to less than 5 carenderia"......You obviously do not watch the channel or have any idea what you are talking about. Every place, in every country, is going to have good and bad points. Personally, I choose the Philippines because the laid back, chilled vibe I get there more than makes up for the poor infrastructure, the MOSTLY poor food, and the trash/polution. Taking all those things into consideration, I would say the biggest negative of the Philippines is the part of their population that can not handle any constructive critism. Instead of adding ANYTHING productive to the conversation , you get offended when he mentions the cons along with the pros. Should he have mentioned that there are constuction projects underway??? No more than you should have mentioned that nearly 5000 of the islands you mentioned having a "distinct culinary profile" are actually UNinhabited!!!!!! Instead of taking pride in the strong points and having a conversation about solutions to the bad points, you would rather ignore the flaws and hate anyone that mentions them. Any country that can not critique itself or have a conversation about its short comings will never be able to move into the 21st century. Again, I like the Phils and choose them over Thailand but if the Philippines has a major con, it is your comment and the people that make them. Not coming at you. It is purely constructive criticism. If you have anything honest and intelligent to add, I hope you will. However I have come to notice a different pattern and expect you to just tell me some kid in Europe that won a spelling bee was 1/16th filipino instead of actully admitting the Phillipines has pros and cons just like everything else.

Talk about weather and climate Philippines- 20 tropical storms pass through a year, 10 develop into typhoons, 5 make landfall, on average. Philippines is more earthquake prone. Philippines has higher mountains, so you can find some cities that don't really get hot- like Baguio, Salvador Benedicto, Malaybalay, etc. No burning season is a plus. Thailand- calmer weather overall, not many natural disasters to worry about. The entire country is hot. Even if you go to Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, it's going to be hot most of the year. And when it's not hot, it's burning season and the air quality is some of the worse in the world.

If you qualify for a retirement visa it is great. I never have to Leave the country and it costs me about $54 US dollars a year. 90 day address reports and done online and it takes maybe ten minutes. You must be over 50 years old and have about $22,000 US dollars in a Thai bank.

I been to both places many times. For me It depends on what you want to do they both have great places to live and visit and have fun. As a visitor you can't loose with both places. I would not want to live in Thialand or the Philippines but I'm only a 4 to 6 hour flight to both and would prefer to spend 30 days in each place. It is all about your budget, and how much money you want to spend on a trip or month.

What I noticed in your Philippines videos is you specifically seek out the hood areas. White people have a fascination with the hood. You don't explore the nicer areas. If you take a walk from Salcedo Village to Legazpi Village in Makati, you'll be shock at how big of an area it is and how walkable and clean it is. And it feels like a real city with varying architectural styles of the buildings and there are a lot of parks and green spaces. BGC feels a bit more fake because it was all planned, but you gotta admit that it's one of the nicest, cleanest urban areas in all of Southeast Asia. Only Singapore surpasses it. I haven't seen any nice part of Bangkok that's as large as BGC or Makati. I will say, Cebu is absolute trash. I don't know why so many people go there. Sure, it's closer to beaches, but not close enough.

As far as fun, it depends a lot on who your traveling with. If you are going as a family with kids, Philippines is more family oriented and a lot more activities that you can do with your kids. If you are traveling and looking for adult fun, yes Thailand has a lot more "red light" type scenes. Definitely leave the kids at home.

Bang for your buck hands down Thailand as the video says. There are a lot of quirky odd things they do in the Philippines that are really in efficient and it seems they'll never fix that can really piss off and frustrate westerners. Like long line ups everywhere, banks machines with no money in them. All the machine gives you is large bills and no one ever has change. Half the menu in a restaurant isn't available and sometimes even less than that. I could go on and on. But the problem is the few things that the Philippines does have over Thailand may make it a better choice depending on the individual. As stated in the video the people in the Philippines are super friendly and I would say because of the higher number of English speaking people. All the signs are in English, all government documents are in English. The women are more open to an age gap in the Philippines and the most important, you can be in the Philippines on a tourist visa up to 3 years before having to do a visa run. The Philippines visa rules really makes you feel like they want foreigners in their country.

I lived for 5 years in Bangkok and 5 years ( less 2 back in Australia during the pandemic), in the Philippines and ABSOLUTELY agree with every opinion you have stated. I am now living in San Juan ( La Union ) Philippines and the only reason I am here is because of my gf ( who is Filipino) and the surf, otherwise it would be Thailand for me. Bangkok is my favourite city whilst Manila is " Satan's Arsehole" ! It's quite simple for me- if you want to live in the city then Bangkok is 1 million times superior to any city in the Philippines for all the reasons you stated. However, if you want a " Province life" that offers want you want ( for me its surf) then you can live in either Thailand or the Philippines. But if I was to live in the Province of either Thailand or the Philippines without the ocean, then ' shoot me', I would die of boredom!!! But your opinions are 100% on the money in my opinion. However, you failed to mention the difference between Thai women and Filipino women- any reason???

Nope. He left out the negatives of Thailand. Like burning season (Philippines doesnt have), worse air in the world. Hot weather all over the country, even mountain towns are hot. Philippines actually has mountain towns where you can escape the heat. Bangkok is a mess with wires and broken sidewalks even in the nicest areas. In the nicest parts of Manila, it actually looks like a developed country. Bangkok's nicest areas like Silom look like Ortigas- which is Manila's 3rd or 4th downtown.

I chose Thailand over the Philippines for several reasons. The infrastructure in Thailand is so much better, electricity is also much cheaper and the Internet is lightning fast even where I live out in the boonies. Good medical care is more widely available. and natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes and volcanoes are nearly non existent. I am an extreme introvert and rarely have conversations even with English speaking farangs. Not speaking Thai guards me from chatty friendly Thai people. My Thai wife of 23 years speaks PLENTY of English. The Philippines may be a safe country but the armed guards at stores put me off a bit. I also hate crowds and traffic. I was in the US Navy and have seen enough salt water to last me a life time so although the beaches are beautiful, I prefer the scenic mountains over humid salt air that corrodes everything. And YES, I live in a scenic mountainous area out in the boonies of a northern province at a thousand feet elevation. Different strokes for different folks.

Nothing I can disagree with here. Mirror my thoughts very closely. So much nuance with a discussion like this. For example yes you can eat for nothing in both places but if your health comes into things then your food costs will increase alot because street food aint healthy 90% of the time. I have no idea why accommodation is so expensive in the Philippines, short or long term, it's ridiculous. Wayyyy better bang for buck in Thailand and it's one of the biggest expenses for anybody so it has to be given more weight. It's hard to live in Bangkok for less than $2k without sacrificing in some areas of life. One thing not mentioned here which is a big factor is pollution. The pollution is horrendous right now all across Thailand, I dont want to leave the gaff much over the last two months because of it here in Bangkok. Look out my condo every morning when I wake up to a fog of smog.
