Have you tested its PowerDelivery feature? Can it deliver 90W power as it was claimed? Most other brands monitors offer 65W only, as well as separate USB-C PD chargers. This is a killer feature IMO
@PCMonitors
@PCMonitors 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't as I don't use USB-C on my system(s) or have the means to measure this. The instruction manual actually confirms 65W PD and this is what I state in the review (7:47) - www.download.p4c.philips.com/files/2/279p1_01/279p1_01_dfu_eng.pdf?_gl=1*1qrv09w*_ga*NTk1MTEzNTc1LjE1ODc2MjY2Njc.*_ga_2NMXNNS6LE*MTYyODQzNzE0NS40Ni4wLjE2Mjg0MzcxNDUuNjA.&_ga=2.165317373.372142614.1628437145-595113575.1587626667. Any mention of 90W is likely incorrect, or perhaps would be under very specific conditions like setting the monitor to '0' brightness or something else.

Bought this monitor in May 2024 and enjoying it thoroughly. I can do two high res. Windows one on screen. Maximo and excel or outlook and excel. Absolutely suits my purpose and i avoided buying a dock for my laptop. Great value. Thanks for your review.

Very helpful video. I have its sister monitor and really am enjoying it. I was looking for a second that I could use in portrait mode for game chat while streaming and also for writing. I think that this will work.

Great video! Is it possible to connect to an older MacBook via HDMI and still get the benefits of the built-in docking station on the Phillips monitor if your mouse or keyboard is plugged in there?
@PCMonitors
@PCMonitors 2 жыл бұрын
You just need to connect the system to the USB-C port (a USB-A to USB-C cable is included for this) for data transfer purposes, then you can use USB peripherals connected to the monitor with your system.

Thanks for such a thorough review! I am looking for an affordable usb-c monitor for photo editing on the M1 macbook air. All my exports are in the sRGB colour space, so this should work well. If I find the monitor too bright in the sRGB setting, what setting do you recommend for sRBG colour work? Sorry if you've covered this, I may not have understood fully since I have no experience with calibrating. In the past I have just trusted the iMac to be accurate enough.
@PCMonitors
@PCMonitors 3 жыл бұрын
You should really just use the native gamut and use a colorimeter to calibrate properly if colour accuracy is important. There's no other way of achieving accurate sRGB coverage on this model, aside from proper calibration or using the sRGB setting with locked brightness (or alternative setting which only AMD GPUs on the PC would give you as far as I'm aware - pcmonitors.info/articles/taming-the-wide-gamut-using-srgb-emulation/).

@@PCMonitors Could I ask one more question? If my editing workspace in LR/PS is using prophotoRGB so I don't clip colours unnecessarily, and I use this monitor which has about 120% sRGB in it's native settings, will I get that oversaturated look like in your video review? I guess I'm confused about how a colour managed app like LR would display my work during the editing process. Maybe it would be unnecessary for me to restrict the monitor to sRGB only when I'm in LR/PS?
@PCMonitors
@PCMonitors 3 жыл бұрын
The oversaturation applies when viewing sRGB content. If you use the ProPhoto RGB colour space in the application then there's a huge mismatch with the actual gamut of the monitor. Regardless of the colour space you set the application to, you could get things to look appropriate on your own monitor and that's fine if it's all you're using. But if you view that content on another monitor things are going to look all over the place. That's why you need to profile the monitor properly with a colorimeter or alternative - the program is then aware of the actual gamut capabilities and appropriate corrections are applied during editing and embedded into the file. You might find the ICC profile provided in the review useful for gamut mapping, but it's really better to calibrate your own unit with your own calibration hardware.

@@PCMonitors thanks, disappointing to hear it's too bright. I still ordered one, i use it very close to a big south facing window. Currently i have a cheap HP 32s there, which is supposed to go up to 250 nits as per specs sheet. Right now that's not bright enough on a sunny day
@PCMonitors
@PCMonitors 3 жыл бұрын
I found it too bright, but as I say everyone has different sensitivities to brightness. I think in a high brightness environment like yours you might find it works nicely - worth trying it out. I know it can be useful having dynamic adjustments with light levels changing quite dramatically across the day. As you'd have in your case.

Amazon (and many other websites) say that the usb-c port has a power delivery of 65W while the Philips website says it is 90W... Please, can you tell me which is the real power delivery?
@PCMonitors
@PCMonitors 3 жыл бұрын
65W, per the review. For some reason Philips USA website/spec sheet says 90W but its sustained PD is 65W as confirmed in the user manual and noted in our review.

Per the written review: (pcmonitors.info/reviews/philips-279p1/#Features_and_aesthetics) and as confirmed on Philips website/the manual: "A power cable is included as standard alongside a DP cable, HDMI cable and USB-C to C/A Y-shaped cable. This may vary depending on region."

@@PCMonitors Thank you for your reply. I am asking becasue I am looking for new monitor for my father for work and general use. It should be around 30-32inch QHD with USB-C 90W and LAN port. There are few monitors I have found but dont know which will be the best choice and there is no shop nearby to inspect them. Philips 326P1 Samsung LS32A600UUU Dell U3023E or 3223DE. Each of these monitor is lacking in something :( Philips doesnt have PnP/PbP, Samsung have everything but use VA panel - so Im afraid there will be a lot of black smearing, Dell have only 60Hz panel and no Adaptive-Sync. Maybe you have any suggestions about these monitors or maybe you know better choice?

For work and general use I feel the Philips you mentioned would be a good choice. Does he actually require PiP/PbP?

@@PCMonitorsTo be honest - I dont think so. But Becasue this is quite an investment I would lke it to have as many usefull features as possible - you never know when it may come handy. Most important is USBC PD and LAN because he is using laptop from workplace and connecting it with one cable removes a lot of cables and space on the desk. Same with 60Hz and Adaptive-Sync - it is not needed but I think it is nice to have higher refresh rate even for windows and programs. I have Asus PA328CGV and would buy him the same display but it lacks LAN port :/ Maybe you are right - this Philips seems to be good choice on paper. I need to think about it liitle bit more. Thanks for chat!

@PCMonitors
@PCMonitors 2 жыл бұрын
If you've got your own colorimeter or alternative calibration device then yes. As covered in the review it's a wide gamut monitor which means things will look oversaturated. You can correct this with sRGB emulation, with the sRGB mode of the monitor locked to high brightness. You can use a GPU-level tweak instead that will let you use all of the settings of the monitor, this is all explored in the review and the article on sRGB emulation linked to there - pcmonitors.info/reviews/philips-279p1/#Colour_reproduction.

Don't hold your breath. LG are pretty useless from a PR perspective here in the UK so probably won't be looking at that one. They're also going to cost about 10 times as much as this Philips, so 'interesting' but not something most will seriously consider buying. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of OLED as a technology, but it's still a bit too niche in the monitor segment.
