I use a pair of old self powered Grundig Aktiv 30 in my workshop. Good enough for the scope while still cheap in case something goes wrong with the devices under test.

Hi, unfortunately I don't have the manual. If your version is equipped with tube amps I know a person in the UK who should have them and may be can make a copy for you. If it is solid state, as mine, I can't help. Do you have the special I/O connectors? And what is the problem with your unit? The sound is far away from that of a Revox A77, a different world. Dynamics, extension, speed, stability are parameters wich an A77 can oly dream about, if compared with the Philips.

Hi, correct, this unit makes use of Germanium semiconductors in its solid state amplifiers. Incredibly nice sound :-) and incredibly tight tracking between the two channels.

Hi! About 10 years ago i sold one like this.. EL3501 and EL 3504 or 5's as well.. Are you that new owner? I still got some cards/amplifiërs for it laying around.. 10-20 pieces.. (the man who bought them from me (those recorders) was a repair man from gouda/delft or den haag.. don't remember..

No. Philips was a good for low-end (Basic) purposes. I had an internship in a recording studios and I was deeply interested in it in the pro area. Sorry, but please do not compare amateur type Philips or telefunken (when it comes to studio) to Studer or Revox from the pro series. Why do you think 90% of studios had these tape recorders even though they were over twice as expensive as others ?

I don't think you ever worked with one of these Philips pro recorders. They do can be compared to Telefunken or Studer.

is the head block 2 ch stereo or full mono?

It's 2 track 0.7mm separation. Ferrite heads. In my life I have repaired and kept in working order hundreds of open reel recorders, including the top notch units (like Studer A820, Ampex ATR100, Nagra T, Stellavox TD9 and TD88, Lyrec Frida and TR55 etc), but this one is the only one which make my heart beat each time I let him play...
