He's seen a lot of baseball, but he's never seen anything like Bryce Harper locked in. 2004 David Ortiz in the postseason did it, but Bryce Harper continually does stuff like this. His hits change leads an insane percentage of the time. Bryce is like If David Ortiz had clutch hits every year in both the regular season and post season... like all the damn time. You do know that 2021 Bryce didn't have the numbers overall to be MVP. His war was good at 6.4 or so, but it's not usual MVP WAR levels we see today. It was the fact that 40+ of his 87 RBI and 20 of his Home Runs came with his team down to either tie or take the lead. That's next level clutch. If you ran analysis on all hitters' RBI and the percentages of those annual RBI that resulted in a lead change, I can guarantee you that Bryce Harper would be near the top of that list for players with 500+ AB.

i was at the game! not only was i taking my dad to the game for his birthday but it was also my first phillies game. my dad turned to me halfway through the game wanting to leave and just like the flyers win in OT at the stadium series this past february, i told him you never leave a game early. heard two people behind me whisper grand slam before that hit and i thought to myself, grand slam it is. that ninth inning was incredible.

Rewind, didn't I just see that exact??? Holy cow, yup: 8th and 9th batters for the Phillies in the 9th came up huge as substitutions in to hit , 6:45 Miller, and 10:05 Quinn, 8th and 9th in the lineup. Their consecutive hits came over 3 minutes apart but they BOTH punched liners up the middle at the exact same spot in the 9th, and Cubs Happ did the same dive, same spot and and tip miss on BOTH of them!! I was like, didn't that just... It was epic in person, too. I got lucky to watch from the front row with 3 friends, and we were sitting by the ball girl and the angle (from just behind 3rd base) was EPIC, he scooped that ball and we had the perfect unobstructed angle to watch the trajectory from the side, from the mound to the plate and all the way into the lights (close anyway) and back down to the stands. Then that Liberty Bell tolled and the place went nuts, like only Philly fans can lol.

Haters love to get on Bryce for his un-eye-popping .255 batting average (which is still above the league average by the way) conveniently leaving out the fact that he has 25 home runs with a full month and a half left in the year, he's among the MLB leaders in RBIs, doubles, and walks, he's played a borderline Gold Glove right field, and has played nearly every game while hustling out every play. His impact on this Phillies team has been enormous. We'd be in big trouble had we not signed him last offseason.

Was thinking the exact same thing. I was at that game August 12th last year and remember Harper walking off in disgust. Still have the video on my phone. Ironically here, it is David Bote's error that got things going for the Phillies.
