I had an all green Philo for several years. Just languished, I’d rarely water it. It was sad. Then I moved it into the warmest room in the house (we have a drafty, cold, Minnesota house) on a shelf in a dark corner. Within a week I noticed a stringy little vine with Brasil looking leaves on it! That was 1.5 years ago. Now there are two. They’re still smaller and spindlier than the other stems and leaves but they’re adorable. I’m fascinated by the genetics of it. Anyone know if it’s common to this species to just switch color or add it?

This is really beautiful. I can only imagine what it looks like today. 😍 I just received my very first Brazilian Philodendron, and I want to make sure I'm taking extra special care of it. Would you recommend I wait until spring to repot it into its permanent home? It's currently still in the 4-inch pot from the store. I would rather do this during a time when it can survive a "noob" trying her best to repot a plant. I've heard this is Spring.
@EverythingPlants3 жыл бұрын
Hello and welcome! The plant is this video is no longer......lost it to thrips. It has since been replaced with a new Brasil. I will be making a new houseplant home tour very soon. It is often recommended that you wait to repot and prune plants until the growing seasons, but I have done so at all times of the year. I would wait awhile to let your plant adjust to your homes conditions. What is your reason for repotting it?
@risinglotus19153 жыл бұрын
@@EverythingPlants @Everything Plants Thank you so much. I greatly appreciate the response. I feel like I should wait until Spring. My reason is, I suppose, to prevent stunting its growth. I feel like the four inch pot is too small, and a larger pot would give in more room to grow fuller. The houseplants home tour sounds very cool. Can't wait to see it. ☺️

Is there a possibility that with too high lighting the leaves turn like lemon lime? I have a couple of leaves without variation totally bright green and I don't know if to cut them or what
@EverythingPlants3 жыл бұрын
Plants always get more variegation with higher light. Now with that said I can't say this is the reason for all bright green. You can try and cut those leaves off and see what happens. I would cut back to the next "normal" leaf node.

Thank you for an informative video! Is there a chance that the foliage will lose their variegation? Is there a way to prevent that?

Diagnosing a plant issue is pretty difficult and even harder without a picture. Yellow leaves can be anything from over to water watering, fertilizer issues or even bug/pests. Yellow with brown spots might be a pest issue. Thrips are terrible where I am this year.

@michellechapman68397 ай бұрын
Terra cotta pot....ok!!

Also depends on watering habits and your environment. If you tend to underwater plants, then it's probably best to use a plastic nursery pot as it holds in more moisture. If you over water plants then terracottas best because it helps absorb any evaporate water

Hi! My plant has new leaves and one of them turned brown and fell off. Is that common? It’s a new plant and I repotted it right away because I bought it online with no pot, just soil and not much. Is it normal for new plants to grow leaves that turn brown and fall off before even sprouting out?
@EverythingPlants3 жыл бұрын
Hello. Some of my plants have done this as well when I first bring them home. I'm assuming it is the change in environment or a watering issue that causes this new leaf drop. My first guess is a water issue....either too much (or the soil stays wet too long) or not enough. My pothos plants do this when I forget to water it. It sends out a reminder by dropping a leaf lol. Also check for pests. I lost a brasil last year slowly to thrips. One or two leaves would become discolored (yellow patches) and then fall off.
