I always imagined my shadow as a mistreated animal. When I worked at the shelter I used to handle dogs, cats and horses which where highly mistreated by their previous owners. But to help those animals you need to see past their fassade of fear and anger towards humans and treat them with kindness and allow them to be themselves once again. And then they start to love you even more for the kindness you gave them. You can't get your own bad side out of you by hitting it and cast it away. Like those animals it will just get frustrated and uncontrollable. But by loving it, it will give you so much more in return. Today it feels like my shadow and I are a team of some sort. I listen more to it and try to understand how it feels and by doing that I figure myself out. It tells me when I have to get cautious with another human thus I stay at a healthy distance from that one. But I also can ease my shadow if I let someone new in my life for my dark side now can trust my light side. And that's what it is. Unconditional trust and love for every part within me.

I had a miraculous connection with a horse once. She was traumatized, but not from physical abuse. She was well fed & groomed, but she was considered the “Spare” while the other horses were given all the love, attention & taken on rides. She had to be separated from the herd when they went out to pasture because the other horses would torment her. When she first came to the ranch she was so frightened & triggered she wouldn’t let anyone come near her. That’s my story too. Unwanted as a baby, raised in a dysfunctional & abusive family, guarding & isolating myself for my protection, never feeling loved or appreciated outside my role as Scapegoat, someone to blame. When I met this horse she had already been there a few months and learned to trust people. As we approached her pen she came walking over & let me pet her. She was really interested in what I had in my coffee cup, but after a while of playing with her she leaned forward and put her forehead against my body. I felt an immediate heart to heart connection, like this horse loves me, sees me, understands me, and intuitively knew my wounds. They say Equine Therapy is like magic and it is.

when I was in my first year in high school, a teacher make all students to write what they want to be when they're older, and then the teacher, read it all one by one. I wrote that I wanna be a musician, the teacher ask me why, and all the students is laughing, someone's said, "music is supposed to be just a hobby not a career". Fast forward I graduated from college and the covid hits. I became a freelance video editor. after covid gone I got interviewed by a local tv station, she asked me " what's your vision in your career? you applied to become video editor, any senior position do you want to achieve? " I said " I don't know " and the she suddenly asked me "what do you want to be? I subconsciously said " an artist " what kind of artist? she replied, and then I said "a musician". I don't know why I reply with such an answer, in a job interview. After reading Jung I realized she triggered my shadow, my repressed desire to become a musician. And I don't get the job obviously. But now I started writing and releasing music, while still being a freelance video editor to pay the bills.

I appreciate the balance of light and dark that is conceptualized in this video. The way I have approached this process of self discovery is by continually extending myself beyond my comfort zone, then see what fear, insecurity, doubt, and limiting belief surfaces. Then I write about it for objectivity. I’ve done a lot of shadow work my entire life. I am driven toward it. It’s exhausting, but gratifying. I’m now writing a screenplay that depicts this process in an adventurous way. Side note: my shadow critic wants me to point out that there are several typos throughout this video- lol. It doesn’t diminish the work however, just thought it was a funny example of the topic.

Raised Catholic, I never read the book "Looking out for Number One" as the title seemed antithesis to being a follower of Jesus. In retrospect, it's the first self help book I should have read. Because in cases like mine, looking out for number one is integrating the shadow. This doesn't mean you can't be a saint without ignoring your shadow. It means you can be happy while being a saint. By looking out for both number two and number one.

From what I've read, cocaine is from a natural local anaesthetic, from which synthetic (patentable) variations like lidocaine are derived. This gives me the impression it numbs some inhibitions. We normally feel pain for example as a messenger telling us our limits. If injured, pain says to look after the injury or we'll suffer more damage. There's probably a psychological equivalent. For instance people usually feel pain or discomfort when guilty or remorseful. A person that doesn't feel those are usually branded a psychopath. They certainly can be more dangerous to be around because they don't get the usual internal responses that would tell a person when to not cause harm. This lack of inhibition and feeling "grand" or powerful has, at least in movies and such, been shown as a result in taking cocaine, but I've had minimal real life to go by on that one, so it's pretty much hypothetical at this point. What I do know about anesthetics and pain relief from experience is people should be very careful with them because pain isn't just a fact of life, it helps us survive. It takes a strong person these days that's willing to take a certain amount of pain. Guilt should hurt, it makes us consider whether something is truly worthwhile. The shadow no doubt has some things to say on the matter. Cocaine or some other drugs could inhibit and and disinhibit parts of ourselves. Maybe the likes of Jung and Freud were learning the hard way.

"Don't make a decision unless you understand why you are making it." Well, I consider this to be very dangerous advice that potentially can even lead to serious mental problems. This advice in fact assumes that you already know everything that's best for you in your life, and therefore you can always give perfect judgements on certain decisions. Truth is, of course, that we all truly "know" just a tiny bit of the overall existence. Sometimes we have certain urges, hints, desires that seem completely illogical and make no sense, but they are there all the time. No matter how you try, you can't "understand" that, and therefore only "logical, rational" thing to do is to ignore or suppress that kind of intuition. Unfortunately that's what many people do, and in a way cut themselves from silent voice of their intuition, and become slaves to "rational" mind, and "rational" society. As a result, many are dying inside, and even don't know why, but they try to convince themselves everything is fine because well, most people seem like that. I think that collectively we should abandon that "rational" worldview and give ourselves permission to do "mistakes" and sometimes be completely irrational and do silly things.

I just love how this content makes the message of the topic sound more convincing and exciting in a way it just shows some level of expression to support such feature. it helps the mind think that the shadow is something that can be also refered to for things out of reach or the light perhaps. The naratives conveys through the tone and speech. 👍

Thinking in English: "I am angry". Thinking in Spanish: "I have anger". Thinking in Irish: "There is anger at me". Our native language can affect how we deal with emotional states . I am not sure If I could possibly integrate my Dark Side, it's also the primary reason I could never trust myself in any position of wealth and power. I think speaking about it somewhat helps. But my Dark Side was born out of curiosity and desire for love, rather to express self-love through art or intimate connection with a partner. Because financial companies make it difficult if not artistically impossible to learn self-love through art and creativity, which cause this Dark side to thrive and grow. I want nothing to do with Dark side because he represents an Archetype which is a literal paradox of Love itself. Do not want anything to do with him. I am knowledgeable, this is a psychological adaptation of creative freedom and self-love being restricted and frowned upon. Every passionate artist who loses the ability to express self-love are susceptible to becoming tyrants, especially if they were placed in positions of power. Many artists are aware of this, which why I rather have this Archetype left behind on Earth confined to my bedroom as an Evil Spirit when I long ago kicked the bucket. It is better than letting it take over my own ego, where it can be at its most dangerous. There is no possible way I could work with it, that archetype goes against my own Peace-Loving nature. I am also knowledgeable, it is only masquerading as a Protector of Love. The scarier part every silent individual especially those curious about the experience of love and what it is like to be a part of something bigger than the self are struggling against the same archetype.

There is no good nor bad in us, only qualities that we were taught to consider as good (and therefore we expose them to the light) and qualities that we were taught to consider as bad (that is why we hide them in the dark, in the closet...). A dog is not good or bad but only a dog, so are we, neither good nor bad, it is just "me". As soon as we manage to get out of our heads all the "memory cards" that were stuck in our minds in our childhood, "memory cards" that contain the software on how to distinguish between "good" and "bad", we will see that everything is "me" and we have no strengths or weaknesses, nothing to be ashamed of, hide or be proud of. Again, it is just "me". As soon as you manage to do this, the "tree" whose top is in light and its roots in darkness, becomes like a "brain" right side and left side, different, equal but working in harmony. It is very difficult to do, but the payoff is huge.

This is my 9th or 10th Jung video, I still don't have the slightest clue what they're talking about. If there's a part of my that I don't know about consciously, how am I supposed to know anything about it? And if it's bad and harms others, why in the world would I want to do that? I happen to like people. It sounds like Jungian philosophy, similar to existentialism which has been forced on us the public, is all about telling people to become a criminal like everyone else.

My shadow once came out during a vivid time when I was arguing with a friend, I always saw myself as calm, cool and collected but when the argument happened I lashed out with anger that I never knew I had and I genuinely felt like an entirely different person, that was a part of my shadow that came to the surface but this doesn't just apply to negative emotions or actions but positive ones as well. I would recommend journaling specifically focusing on 'shadow work' questions that ask you think deeply on memories past and present which combines into self introspection. I search online for some unique shadow work question. Meditation can be done this way as well when your in deep breathing you can reflect on your thoughts, emotions etc

Wow. How theatrical. We do not have a dark side. I used to think that. We just have parts of our mind that are more selfish. Remnants in the least, other personalities in the more extreme, that seem dark but are really just parts of your own mind. We are conditioned by society to repress our more self absorbed portions of our mind which are natural to our early childhood. These parts never go away. In the kindest forms, they are repressed. In the more extreme they take on lives of their own. It is not darkness. It is not evil. Its just human psychology based upon millions of years evolution and perceptions of society conditioning children. Yes, to be a well rounded person we should be aware of these parts of ourselves but not applying superstition.

@2:00 "The most important part [of the process of individuation] is the dark side..." This is somewhat inaccurate, yes it's utterly important, but more than that this is the second step a person does when first encountering the unconscious...the previous and first step is the recognition of The Persona (thh attributes we show of how we want society to perceive us), the next stop after the shadow (what this video is about, and it calls little loosely our dark side) is confronting the hero, then the Anima (or the Animus) and then the self...all of the possesses both a healthy and dark side. All of these are important. In summary: The Persona, shadow (the topic of this video), the hero, the Anima (and Animus), the Self. All of them have a bright and dark side, the dark side is not 100% harmful but a needed counterbalance, put it in another way with an example "it would be curious to see a person who never gets unhappy or upset with anything"

The shadow isn't so much "rejected traits" as it is repressed instincts, emotions, feelings and complexes. There is the personal shadow, which is the repressed energy and trauma of this lifetime. There is the Soul's shadow...what Jung called the "collective shadow". But this is in actuality the karma and complexes that belong to the evolving Soul. Jung did not write about reincarnation although I believe he was aware of it. Jung had to keep up appearances as an empiricist.

Does anyone have an example of situations where you ask insecurity for advice? Or what is the "good side" of insecurity?

If it was me, I would ask myself if I judge others a lot as this then can make us insecure as fear is people judging us the way we do. Basically, whatever we suppress, we will then express and project onto others what we don't like about ourselves

Humility, and having a learner’s mind, is the golden shadow of insecurity. Being okay to say “I don’t know and don’t have all the answers” . The opposite of perfectionism, and people pleasing behaviours.

I'd say rather than ask insecurity for advice, you ideally want to ask yourself and interrogate as to WHY those insecurities exist and where they originate from. Or perhaps simply the act of shining light upon them and being aware through meditation or mindfulness practice is also productive. Insecurity comes from a place of fear ultimately which is not something to be fed into by further suppression and ignoring. The good side, if one were to call it that, is not the insecurities themselves necessarily but by embracing and being aware of these facets, we can become more whole and less fragmented. Integration of the shadow rather running from it. Traits we complain about in other people sometimes tend to be stuff we are at odds with of inside ourselves. And our own internal insecurities about ourselves can often times point the direction to something larger that needs to come to light and be aware of. So perhaps the good side of insecurities is that they offer opportunities for us to learn.
