Plato's idea of perfect forms sounds to me like Jung's idea of an archetype, an eternal symbol of sorts.

Given that, under this system, evil is a privation of Good, the more you ascend the pyramid the less missing there is. In other words, the Good is fully complete and lacking nothing and as it flows over, the gaps are what we call evil. Thus, justice is complete ine the world of the forms but here we have holes in it (Injustice).

right, but is that something Plato makes clear or are we just talking about Plotinus now? Especially considering the early academy did have discussions on whether "the dyad" is something existent or not

Good point and counter point. Love the animation, voice talent, and layout of both sides of the argument. I’ve been into esoterica for a while, but just now exploring Plato’s forms. I had an understanding of the allegory of the cave “story”, but this is the first I’ve heard of an explanation of it. It’s really funny, , because the bit at the end was literally EXACTLY what came across my mind at the beginning…. Is it a calico or witches black cat? Is it a lazy boy or a church pew? I thought of evil as well. Only difference (and I’m serious), was I was wondering how far off peoples ideas of a vagina could be from the perfect form. Like- some guys like the little Barbie pussy, and some guys like the roast beef, but how far off are they(how far off am I?!) from the perfect form?! I guess if you’re a real man it doesn’t matter as long as you can have it for a night, lol!

Plato's forms do seem silly to us now, but I've read in Bertrand Russell's book, "Problems of Philosophy," that the similar idea of "universals" is actually taken seriously in philosophy, and that these can be thought of as "existing" in some sense. Wonder if you have talked about this in another video. I hope to discuss these topics in my own channel too!

Love the video and animation. I do believe we aren’t to take plato’s theory of forms too literally. Instead it may just serve to encourage us to think and subjectively conceptualise the ideal or perfect version of things and in doing so strive to live towards it

To determine whether Evil exists in the world of forms, you have to define Evil. The best definition of it would be a lack of Good. Evil would not exist in the world of forms because forms are meant to be the perfect versions of things, that is something that approximates Good or Goodness.

There is absolutely ZERO problems with Plato’s philosophy. There is nothing about his philosophy that is opinion, it is all rooted in logic. If you really wanna know just how factual and accurate his philosophy is, look up Scott Olson and Plato’s divided line. You will never look at Plato the same again.

How can there be forms of modern inventions like airplanes and computers? How could there be a form when we don’t know what these inventions will become over time? A person’s form of a computer in the 1970s would differ completely from the form a person has today.

I wonder if the story of Satan and God is an allegorical answer to the question, "Does evil stem from the Form of Good". Maybe it implies that all things from good evolve. If that's the case, maybe dog poo evolved from the form of another thing. Maybe it was the form of Alec Baldwin.

Evil is opposite to the form of the Good. In fact, it is acting out of the shadow rather than the form of the good . Plato very much felt forms to be a matter of geometry, and of Homer's epic works that preceded it, your understanding needs to be revised.

Plato's theory of forms could be a representation of much truth but may have been dumbed down in a way so that much meaning can be lost to many individuals? Maybe there is not a form of a perfect cat anywhere, but instead higher principles which generate many forms of cats and other living beings and their behavior. Some in form realms above the physical universe and some in the physical universe. And maybe there is also a type of testing what ideas work, which is seen in the evolution of the species. Also the form of a chair seems not to rank on the same level as the forms of living beings.

Why did Plato believe that theres was a world of "forms" beyond space of time? Did he infer this because of his allegory of the cave?
@jeffk37462 жыл бұрын
it was his solution to the problem of universals and particulars. The cave was his attempt to explain his system

To answer you last question a perfect form of evil or something as vile as dog poo can not exist because evil is the absence of good like darkness is the absence of light. So I'f there was only good there would be no bad.

Plato's argument is just not rigorous enough from a logical perspective. Aristotle does a much better job at supporting his views.

Quran says: “Allah:there is not God except he”:The Neccessary life/consciousness,sustainer of life/consciousness.” Wire like neuronal structures that conduct electricity via ions/neurotransmitters in the CNS/PNS possess no attribute of thinking/life and yet that has “randomly” led to life. Consciousness/thinking is an innate idea(“Fitra”)that is distinct from carbon skeleton and yet the materialist scientist believes that chemistry turned into biology via “god of randomness”/”Emergent property”/”law of nature”. Consciousness can only stem from Necessary Consciousness (Allah-one/indivisible/loving/self-sufficient perfection)

This seems more like fantasy than philosophy, not much different from the concept of heaven in religions, how do universals logically lead to world of forms, philosophy should be about reason and logic not unreined imagination.
