Phil, Jase, and Al explain why Jesus wasn't a pacifist and lay down biblical defenses of the right to protect yourself and others. But first, it might be time for Phil to patent his tried-and-true technique for amplifying his hearing. Jase strikes fear in his teenage houseguests with his "terrifying" supper and gives Missy a scare when he discovers a critter on his property. And animal control pays a visit to Willie's place after an unusual deer incident.

Love of self is perfectly good and healthy. It is the acknowledgement and appreciation of God's gift to you. What is wrong is pride and ego if not kept in check or balance. There is an order and God is always first in all things. When pride and ego become problematic it is because God is no longer first in all things.

Our Lord, (Jesus Christ, not Paul) says to "fear not them which kill the body" and the "flesh profits nothing." Self defense, in the context that is given here, is nothing more than actions to protect that which is not eternal. Only God can destroy what is eternal. Do not love ourselves, which is easy, but "love your enemies" which is hard. How about instead of self dense, why not defend Christ!

In regards to your listener from NYC- I'm listening from Las Vegas, NV! Just discovered the podcast via Phil's Instagram. I've been listening most the day the last two days while I do housework, etc. This topic was recently relevant to me, as a few days ago I was involved in a really bad situation with road rage. Long story short, the man was driving reckless, almost hit me, I honked at him (I'm sure he saw me but still wasn't sure) as I avoided him and the guy went off the rails. He kept trying to hit me after that, and when I tried to evade him, he chased me down and started screaming at me in an attempt to get me to pull over and do who knows what- I'm guessing "fight him" ( unbeknownst to him, I was on my way home from the shooting range) I was eventually able to get away from him. I know I did the right thing, and while I am pretty slow to anger, always avoid conflict as necessary, and fully aware of the law here with self defense-I questioned what the biblical perspective was on the situation had things gotten worse and if he was armed, etc. This episode really just helped reconfirm what I had felt. I came to Jesus in high school about 15 years ago, but I really didn't start "walking" with Jesus until the last year. I really appreciate the perspective, stories and scripture you all share with every podcast and feel I learn something new with every episode. You gentlemen are the male role models this country (and world) needs, especially for those in the 15-35 year old range, in these very crazy times. Keep up your great work!

Sounds like you handled that well . I understand it's not always easy to NOT confront someone like that . I was recently in a similar situation and the old Jeff wanted to stop and whip his ass . But i'm trying my best to walk with the Lord . So i didn't react as i would have in the past . And i forgave him and continued on my way . And as i drove on i prayed for him and tried to love him . Because those folks have a lot of hate in their hearts and are willing to unleash it the first chance they get . I've been walking with the Lord and obeying his commands for four years now . He will bless you with the Holy Spirit in your heart and help you overcome these situations . I couldn't help but think how that would look on me standing on the side of the road pounding the dude . People know i'm living for the Lord . The Holy Spirit kicked in and stopped that from happening . My opinion is that may have been the Holy Spirit that helped you deescalate the situation. God Bless You My Friend and keep up the good fight , your orders are coming from higher up now !

There are many people that wouldn't even think about turning the other cheek or taking the high road and no it's not always easy some times it takes all you have in you to get walk away and not go off on someone being like that and it's different When you can walk away but there are times you can't walk away you gotta stand up for yourself at all cost because if they had good intentions they wouldn't be doing what they are doing in most situations

Here's the thing, even if you don't defend yourself and are killed, if you have put on Christ in baptism, what have you lost? It's all a conscience thing. If your conscience tells you it's a sin to defend yourself, don't defend yourself. Then your heart is clean before the King.

@Robert Blackford I agree and see your point of view. I am for defending oneself. I myself carry and carry a backup. And a spare! Haha. But if someone has a problem with it, they have to work it out in their own minds. In the heat of the moment I would imagine it's always gonna be "them". And I possess no problems with that. One thing to remember is we have a God that many would refer to as "down to earth" if they truly knew Him. He understands people better than we do. He tells us to live good lives, and that includes interacting with the world using love. Once you do that, you have to recognize the necessity for things like violent self defense, it just cannot ever involve anger. It can't be for hatred of someone, but of love for another or God.

It's true. Nothing wrong with the old hymns, but remember the four living creatures surrounding the throne of God in Revalation 4:8. They continually sing a song of worship, it tells us. The song has 12 words. It's not the length of the song, but the intent of the song. If the intent is to worship and commune with God....well....we're not heard by speaking more words, the Bible tells us...

I often think that people describe Jesus as a real wimp but I like the story of the crowd of people wanting to stone him. He said, basically , that he didn't have time for this today. He had to do what God, the Father wanted him to do. He just walked right through the crowd and they didn't touch him that day. He laid down his life in God's perfect time. That's what we are supposed to do as well.

When the Lord Jesus Christ comes again, this time He’s coming as a warrior with a rod of iron in His right hand. He’s going to trounce His enemies with the opening of His mouth. The lost don’t realize how their decision NOT to make a decision for their salvation in Jesus makes them His enemy and He will destroy them right along with Satan, once and for all (after the millennium when the devil has to be let out of his prison to go and deceive the nations once more). Jesus came as the meek Lamb the first time, to take our sins and the sins of the world upon Himself for those who believe; He comes back as the Lion of Judah. It’s all over for those who resisted His offer of salvation.

Killing or violence for any reason is of the devil! Why we follow Jesus not corruptible men! Matthew 5 Love Your Enemies (Leviticus 24:17-23; Luke 6:27-36) 38Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. 41And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. 42Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. 43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. I think that's way the Hebrew roots movement gained so much traction with the thought of a "righteous" kill in defense of yourself or family rather than believing we might be called to make the same sacrifice or similar to that of God the Father and Jesus Christ. God bless you brother in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

The bible made clear distinctions between the shedding of innocent blood versus killing as the due consequence of a crime. A number of sins were considered to be worthy of the death penalty including murder, incest, bearing false witness on a capital charge, adultery, child sacrifice to pagan gods, cursing a parent, homosexualityand other sins. The word Kill used in the 10 commandments in the original Hebrew was Retzach or Murder. Only thing that separates killing from murder is Intent I'm going with you cross the line and put my family...brother and sisters included. I'll shoot and take it up with Jesus...

Folks, free thinker is a troll. It won’t help to engage him to change his mind, that will be the work of the Holy Spirit. Think about it, he’s on here every podcast so he is hearing the Word of God! That is no mistake, it’s God in control. Pray for him! Ask the Lord to open his eyes and soften his heart. But if you engage at his level at this point you will only be giving him the confusion that he seeks to bring.

You fellas just reminded me of a story I heard about a woman who called in to a talk radio show and made a comment about how they need to move the deer crossing signs to a different place where there was less traffic instead of putting them on the roads that are more frequently traveled. This would cut down on the number of deer being hit by vehicles. Yes, she was serious.

I know you didn’t say shoot or kill but right to protect & you are just sharing so please don’t take this wrong. I’m assuming u mean shoot or harm. Based off that law, the person MIGHT have the “right”, by a law written by men, to shoot/harm the individual BUT if the persons life or loved ones lives are not threatened, Gods law would not justify shooting/harming the individual. Jesus would not shoot or physically harm a man for trespassing on property if loved ones lives or the individuals life is not threatened. The “laws of the land” are not justified if that law contradicts “His word”. If your life is threatened & you only choices are “protect” or die/physically harmed, Gods word gives us the “right” to “protect” as the verses that Phil shared clearly stated.

Robert Blackford, i’m not biblical illiterate sir. If you think that a man has a biblical “right” to shoot a man for trespassing without life threatened you are absolutely wrong. Did you even watch the video just posted or skip over the the last 30 minutes. When someone says “what would Jesus do”, they are basing it off the Word of God. Where in the world did you get “separating the will of the Father & Son” from my statement? I’m going be kind and assume you misread. Please do a better job at pointing out what i said is “blasphemy”. Sorry, i don’t see it.

Lyceum address: ☆☆☆☆☆☆▪︎▪︎▪︎☆☆☆ Speaking of the ravages of mob law (not mobocratic). "- Instances of the perpetrators of such acts going unpunished; the ◇ lawless in spirit, are encouraged to become lawless in practice; ◇ having been used to no restraint but dread of punishment, they thus become absolutely unrestrained. @SuperJMichael
@SuperJMichael 4 жыл бұрын
In case it is ignorance of the meaning of that scripture it’s meaning is this. It is part of a tale of demon possession and Jesus casting them out. The strong man is satan. The house or palace is the human body of which his demons have possession. Jesus came using the power of God to displace the demons and to return the mans body to himself and to the Lord. You must read all the verses to understand. Luke 11:22 explains about the stronger man (Jesus) entering the house or palace (mans body) and displacing the string man (satan) and the sharing out the spoils of the conquest (giving back the mans body to him and to God).

Just my opinion but I think the moral of the fish stealing story is, Phil read the Bible and obeyed it and God rewarded his obedience by deterring those who were stealing his fish. We can never go wrong by obeying the Bible. Even if we don’t see immediate results/reward, God will eventually reward our obedience.

Wow, it's true. I have poor hearing (partial loss in left ear), and folded my ears like Phil showed, and wow, the sound was *WAY* better?! That's amazing, ha! About defending oneself, I always figured I would try sharing God's truth with whoever's trying to do me harm and talk to them, but if they're bent on killing me, well, then so be it, just be with God sooner, because I just don't think I could kill someone, just knowing my own heart and personality AND the way I've understood Scripture, but Phil you shared some interesting Scripture verses and you all have given me something to really chew on, at least in terms of others defending themselves. I thank you. Oh, and I have to tell you all, I'm from Kansas and I'm a woman, and a nature photographer, and last year I came across THE BIGGEST BULLFROG ever... the length (hand to God) of my forearm, about 15" from tip of nose to end of tailbone, almost as wide!!... Had NO IDEA frogs could get THAT BIG! It was at a grasslands refuge, and for a moment when I first spotted it, just laying there in a circle of algae under a footbridge, I thought, "They make frog decoys? What in the world? That's not cool?" LOL, and shot the building (the learning center for the grasslands) on the property a dirty look, haha. But then decided to move in closer, on the footbridge, standing about 5' over it and realized it was real. Squealed like a little girl for a moment, but then the photographer came back out of me, asked Jesus to please protect me and not let it jump up, and stuck my head through the posts, my face over it, about 2' away from it, and got great shots of it! Was very cool. And scary, ha! Peace of Christ to you all. Watched your show back when it was on, and have become a new follower of your podcast and really enjoying it.

Ok first of all , Exodus is old testament bro, were in the new testament covenant. And as for the comments about sell your cloak and buy a sword, that was a very unique circumstance where that was said. They replied that two of them already had a sword to which Jesus replies " It is enough" Luke 22:38 The sword in question was the one Peter used to cut the ear of the Roman, which Jesus then publicly HEALED the wounded soldiers ear, showing all His captors the mistake they were making. It was NOT a statement of SELF DEFENSE. As for the " they shot first " argument i lead you to Matthew 5:38-39 Ye have heard that it hath been said an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, that ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee in thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. Romans 12:19-21 dearly beloved avenge not yourselves but rather give place unto wrath, for it is written: vengeance is mine , I will repay, saith the Lord Therefore if thine enemy hunger feed him If he thirsts give him drink. For in so doing, thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. 9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. 10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: 11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. 12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; 13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. 14 And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand: 15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. 16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. 17 And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable. 18 And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; 19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? 20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

Luke 10:25-37 25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? 27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. 28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. 29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? 30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, 34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. 36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? 37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
