You are in for a treat, Band Maid is something special. This song, is song 22 in a 23 song setlist. Their energy is crazy. Their recent DVD, was 3 and a half hours long! 33 songs! (10th Anniversary tour Live from Yokohama) Band Maid is very much involved with their fans. In their shows, they take breaks to play a few instrumentals, and also to talk to the audience. I got to see them in 2022 and it was the most amazing show I have ever seen. During their shows, EVERYONE in the band has a chance to shine. And again, they are all about entertaining the crowd. Never seen a band care about their fans as much as these ladies do A few of my personal favorites that you might want to check out Blooming - fast paced, face melting melodies Day Dreaming - Ballad, personally my favorite, emotional About Us - Another ballad, written for the fans during the pandemic as a love letter Memorable - A song they wrote as Thank you to the US fans during their tour here Catharsis - The Acoustic version that was done for a Christmas concert Puzzle - The acoustic version if you can find it. Saiki's voice is just astounding in this version, and Akane is doing backup vocals Hate - Official Live video from Yokohama, AMAZING back and forth between Misa and Akane Endless Story - Official Live video from Yokohama, Concert closeout song, Emotional and extended From Now On - Instrumental, first time I heard it, reminded me of Epic Boss battles. lol I would also like to recommend checking out Ohrenje's channel. He has done Documentaries on all the members www.youtube.com/@Ohrenje

@@PhilZeroThe do, actually do chill…occasionally. 😂 The basically do every type of song. Oh, first, I thought I’d mention your dog is awesome, btw. 😃 The Maids do every kind of song. 🎶 And, did you see that they played a collaboration song with The Warning at their joint concert last Wednesday!! Yup!! Called “Show Them”. They kept the structure pretty straightforward but has some cool elements from the sneaked video a Warning crew mistakenly leaked online (it’s gone now 🤷🏻‍♂️) But the Maids have a few chill songs. Check out their most recent release - “Bestie” - OMV - which is actually a collaboration with guitarist Mike Einzinger of INCUBUS. Then other songs are - “Daydreaming” - OMV - “Wonderland” - OLV - “Memorable” - OMV - “About Us” - OLV But the song you really want to see & hear is their 10th Anniversary Okyuji show closer - “Endless Story” - OLV - you’ll see their hearts and the love they have for their fans. Another all out rocker extravagant performance like “Domination” but with even better solos…🤯 - “Hate?” - OLV - from 10th Anniversary show Really enjoy your videos! Take care and Rock On 🤘🏼🔥🎸🥁🎤🎹🎧🎼🌏🇯🇵🇲🇽🇨🇦😎✌🏼

The little “thrash off” between the two guitarists is a bit of fun. When Miku sacked herself as lead singer she didn’t want to just stand there with the microphone so she hung a guitar round her neck, even though she couldn’t play it. Kaname has taught her over the years and Miku is now pretty good, even having her own signature Zemaitis guitar. This little battle has Kaname egging Miku on to play faster and faster while keeping up with her until Miku can’t do any more. Miku then falls backwards and Kaname raises her hand showing she’s still the best. You’ll also notice the band gathered in front of the drummer pulling faces at her to try and put her off. They are great musicians, but they have a lot of fun as well, something that seems to have been lost in other parts of the music world!

I've seen hundreds of reactions to this song and was not expecting to learn something new but I was wrong. Great job!!! The thing with BAND-MAID is that they play a wide range of styles, they have even done a couple of acoustic concerts, they also have an alter-ego called BAND-MAIKO that mixes in traditional Japanese instruments. They have songs that sound like they came from every decade from the '70s until now. Their complexity ranges from punk to progressive. Thanks for checking them out.

Nice to meet you, Phil. Thanks for your reaction to the BAND-MAID song. I hope this performance was a great encounter for you. Since I worked in the Japanese music industry and concert hall was my workplace, I have probably experienced more gigs than the average music fan. And now that I have retired from my job, there is a particular reason why I went to 21 BAND-MAID gigs (they call them お給仕OKYUJI) in the last year alone. It's because their gigs get better and better with each passing show. Even the next day's gig changes the setlist, and no two gigs are ever the same. Even the MC's are different and laugh out loud hilarious every time. In other words, every moment is a one-time-only chemical reaction, all of which become unforgettable moments in a lifetime. After every OKYUJI, I think that I will never be able to experience anything better, only to have that thought be completely overturned at the next OKYUJI. LOL So, the moment OKYUJI is over, I find myself wanting to go back for the next one, and eagerly awaiting that day to come. Their playing is great, of course, but I bet you'll love their songs. Almost all of their repertoire is filled with gems. 🥰 The five members' sounds are meticulously intertwined, complex, dense, and yet catchy ―― a novel musicality that combines these seemingly contradictory elements into one brilliantly executed song(s) and performance(s) that will surely captivate you, I believe. ☝

@@PhilZero I'm from the British Invasion, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix era. I've always loved electric guitars, don't play them, but love them, the heavier the better. In the 90's, I fell back to Classic Rock and listened to a lot of songs I knew well. I'm not into rap, unless it's RATM. I got into KZbin as a way to see old video performances of bands like Vanilla Fudge, which I had never seen live. I started watching reaction videos in order to feel like I was sharing the music with friends. I saw Jinjer Pisces and immediately jumped on their music. What I'll call it is speed metal - great musicianship but fairly repetitive. I play harmonica and have been in many jam sessions, and speed metal reminded me of that. I stumbled across Liliac doing Enter Sandman and was into their music but then they went glam and I looked around for other young bands. That's how I found The Warning. Money was the one that hooked me (the supporting Foo Fighters one). Their whole story grabbed me and I've been going way back and deep. I watched some Baby Metal but the girls are not musicians. I have seen a lot of reactors who are into Band Maid and the other J Rock and K Pop bands, which the members of The Warning are also into. This video was, to me, a speed metal video - great musicianship, great voice and more like a jam session. It does not replace the basic things I get from The Warning - song structure, stage performance, Dany and Pau's "it factor," and Ale's cool. I would love to see The Warning do more solos and stretch out their song times and I think that will come in time. Since they've been at it so long and it's so well documented, we forget that they truly did not enter the mainstream away from KZbin until they signed with Lava and honed their skills during the pandemic. I am interested to see what The Warning learns in Japan. If you watch their documentaries, you'll hear that they are always looking for something to learn and try out. That's why their songs are so varied. I'm just into their story. BTW, I'm hooked on your channel for your analysis. For example, you are the only reactor who recognized the influence of J Rock on The Warning's song structure.

Next step could be Blooming, official video, and Bubble. There are tons of different genres. I recently fell into Clang, a relatively obscure Maids song. Four songs I’m in now are Clang, Anemone, Matchless gum and Unfair game. They are all relatively unknown gems. There are a few dinosaurs in their repertoire. Moratorium, Puzzle, Hate, Secret my lips, and a few new songs like Without holding back, awesome instrumental and From now on, also instrumental. All is backed by an old Onset. Geezzz… I am lost in awesomeness.

@PhilZero
@PhilZero 3 ай бұрын
Nah dude you totally got it! It can be considered both abbbbbc or abbbccd. Technically you are “more correct”, because in your 2 “c” lines, there is a note that’s different from your “b” lines. Something I should’ve mentioned, actually. The whole structure mapping thing is a means to an end. It’s just a tool to help us understand the general “feel” of the song just by looking at the 3 structures. So usually if the line has the same feel as the another line, give or take a couple notes or syllables, I personally consider it the same letter, but other people may not. One of my old classmates would write stuff like B* or B1, B2- just to note that there is something slightly different. But really it’s whatever works for you. Good catch! 🤘

I think if you're a music nerd, you'll really like them. Kanami (lead guitar) is the musical genius who composes the core of almost all their songs (since 2016 or so with 'Alone'), and she is a big music nerd herself. She loves a full sound with lots of layering, but at the core, she has a great ear for melodies, which is kind of a signature for Japanese compositions I find. Band-Maid's choruses are almost always catchy where you can just jam out, and they will throw in tons of other great influences from a bunch of genres in their songs for flair.

Awesome reaction and review man! The band overtook the chilis as my favorite band a few years ago. Treat yourself and go see them the next time they drop by your section of the world. Seems like we came up in the same music era with similar tastes. The best way I could describe being at a maid show is that its got the even more of dynamic musical showcase than most metal shows but with the chill and silly laid back atmosphere of an early 200s blink show. Everyone has a good time the whole time.

Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 (Just so you know, I have a ticket to the concert by Band-Maid and The Warning on June 12 in Tokyo.) Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Yep, always fun to see a musician come across the Maids. Thanks for the insightful reaction Phil. I know you are really going to like this band. They have an incredibly deep and diverse catalogue. I'll second the motion for the Manners/Blackhole two-fer. Manners is a great bluesy rock throwback and Blackhole? Well... you'll see.

One of the things I love about Band-Maid is their complete lack of ego's. Watch some of their behind the scenes footage and you realize that they're on the edge of being nerdy and goofballs. Saiki and Misa sometimes come across as being cold, but when you see them smile and laugh with the others, you see them for who they really are. These ladies just love to play music together and you can see the respect and love they have for each other. Their musicianship is among the best and when you put them all together, you have the best band performing today. I'm 63 and have seen a lot of bands over the years, but Band-Maid has become my favorite of all time. They have made me appreciate music all over again with their songs and just them for being themselves.

@@PhilZero I loved it! I was there for The Warning but Band-Maid got a new fan that day :) Not listening much to them recorded (except for live videos and also that new song) but looking forward to a future day when I get to see them live again because that show rocked! No pictures or videos allowed (which is a good thing in a big way but also a loss), but when they told Dany about the magic spell and had her say "moe moe kyun kyun" I lost it haha, that was so cute! Both bands where having a blast and enjoying every moment of it, that was clear! While TW was on I saw B-M rocking out to the side of the stage \m/

Great break down. So, the singer isn't classically trained that I know of and did have a mid career problem with unhealthy technique. Surgery and coaching later, she is a strong professional that can basically do what she wants. Check out Don't You Tell Me Live from their Yokohama 10 year celebration concern. The show lasted three and half hours and she monstered her way through it. Also, check out the MVs for Blooming and Influencer. She's got a lot of different chops. You'll notice the songwriter (lead guitar) is brilliant and that these very different songs all have complex arrangements with bits of punk, pop, metal, rock, and hip hop, all blended together.

Welcome to Band Maid ❤ 🔥 🤘🏽 “Do they sing in English or Japanese?” Yes. 😂 When you say you grew up in the punk rock scene and (bonus) are a big music nerd? You are in for the ride of your life with the Maids! On the surface, for casual listeners, Band Maid delivers the fun and catchy music. However, for us music theory aficionados, sound engineers, and other musicians? Our ears are rewarded with every measure. As an aside, Saiki, the lead vocalist, has almost superhuman breath control. As a bonus aside, please note how they always vary the second verse. “Cut and paste” does not exist in Band Maid. Based on your feedback and highlights with this song, I have to highly recommend “Blooming,” official music video. Although the Maids always outperform their studio tracks, “Blooming” is an exceptional post hardcore punk song with a most magnificent bridge. (BTW cool Batman Seiko!)

“Yes” is the only correct answer 🤣 And I completely agree on all counts! 🤘💜 Ps - ahh yes, another watch guy I see. My condolences, brother. 🤣 My watch in this video is the actual Rolex Batman - the only Swiss watch in my collection. The rest of my watches are all (fittingly) Japanese (Seiko, Grand Seiko, G-shock)

More of The Warning is paramount, but a smattering of Band Maid will be ok, too. The Warning: you did some greats but here are more: - Hell You call a Dream - Pepsi - Automatic Sun - Live Footage Official Studio Video - Enter Sandman - Teatro Metropolitan - Choke - Teatro Metropolitan - Disciple - Teatro Metropolitan - Queen of the Murder Scene - Teatro Metropolitan - When I’m Alone - Teatro Metropolitan

Well you opened up the Band-Maid rabbit hole (prepare for like 60 Band-Maid song recommendations, I'll start with "Hate?" "Onset" and "From Now On") and it is going to drag along the entire JRock and JMetal rabbit holes shortly. Likely the next most recommended band from JRock or JMetal is going to be Lovebites (with good reason), the song probably being the Live version of "Holy War Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020." After that is would likely be Hanabie or Nemophila, perhaps Gacharic Spin or Unlucky Morpheus or East of Eden.

Since you like screamos, try "Maximum the Hormone" (something like this kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3SQqHemrN94qpY). They are a Band from the late 1990ies, originating from a hardcore punk style, they now do what the want. Thier female drummer inspired those from Band-Maid, Nemophila and Lovebites.
