This would be effective with the Use of CTCSS or DCS tones Have your mobiles/portables set to transmit on frequency with a CTCSS or DCS tone the only the "repeater" is listening to and then have the "repeater" transmit on the frequency with a CTCSS or DCS that only your Mobiles and portables are listening to. This would effectively cancel out people in close proximity to you from hearing you twice.

Cute. Instead, turn on 67Hx CTCCS on your portable, and crank up the receive volume to about 3/4. It'll stop cutting you off. Nice features rundown. I can't help believe you were trying to crack a walnut with a sledgehammer.

How could one build this without having an HP service device? How much does an HP unit like that cost and how does one go about learning how to use one? I’m a General class HAM and there’s a lot I don’t know here. I’ve all but given up on finding a simple repeater to build low cost for use at camping trips and 4x4 adventures. Bummer. I just want something I can throw in a vehicle and park it on a high peak in the operation area of the event and have a short range temporary repeater for use over a weekend outing. Any ideas 💡?

Let me pick your brain.... Having radio equipment aside, would you choose to go a simplex repeater route, or spend twice the money and use a Chinese duplexer with a duplex controller of similar cost? I ask because I'm considering a GMRS single band repeater station. I already have the transceivers, but currently no duplexer or repeater controller. Low cost is a must on this system. I don't think I'd be happy with a simplex repeater system like this, but I wanted an opinion.

If you want a duplex repeater then build a duplex repeater. Simplex repeaters have a limited application, and I imagine GMRS users would have a hard time with it.

Kenneth Finnegan I decided on an Argent ADS-SR1 simplex setup. Cost is about half (if not less) than having to worry about a true single band duplexer. I'm going to run it split so there's no "echo " to confuse others. Good videos btw. I've missed messing around with radio and antenna theory.

For GMRS duplex is definitely the way to go. However, a duplex repeater requires some specialized skills and knowledge to properly build and maintain. That said, a setup like in this video is an excellent addition to a vacation cabin or RV installation where you want to reliably extend GMRS operation and don't have a lot of traffic. I am considering one in my SUV to extend the capabilities of my GMRS mobile. .

Motorola Maxtracs are awesome! Same build as a Motorola GM300, but were the Government line sold to Cities, Counties, State, US Gov't etc.

Also, great vid. Very thorough. And props on using a baofeng ht. Cheap little radios are actually pretty decent. I have a gt3 mkii, 2 bf-f8+, a Larsen bsa450 base antenna, qyt kt8900 mobile with an MP Super M 400 antenna.

Pretty decent may be a little generous. All of my Chinese radios have been relegated to bench service.

Kenneth Finnegan I've been fairly lucky. Granted, they aren't Icoms or Yaesus, but a few newer models are decent...at least for the money. My main complaint is squelch and rejection. Rejection can be somewhat bettered with a good antenna. Squelch...well, that's why I like ctcss and dcs.

Hello Kenneth and thank you for your great videos, question I have the Motorola Radius VHF 16 pin will the same wiring diagran work for this from the Argent Data to the radio your video shows the Motorola Maxtrac is the wiring the same? Thank you my friend.

Hey Kenneth thank you for your video. It help me a lot to build the the interface cable to from the ADS-SR1 to a UHF Motorola M130. It works great and I am very happy with it. I don't know if you are aware that Argent makes a module that will plug into the 16 pin of the Motorola radio all you have to do is plug a cat five cable. I bought one but it did not work. I thought it was the cable that was bad so I try another one and it still did not work. Your cable that you show how to make works. Thanks again.

Ive used a Parrot repeater, they are slow and a nightmare, most of the time the other station not knowing when you are transmitting will double with you. Crossband duplex is the way to go, RX filtering will filter out TX from the other band use seperate aerials as far apart and different hight to each out

Thanks for the video. I am looking to connect this repeater controller to a Radioddity 20 watt mobile GMRS radio. I notice that the handheld speaker-mic connects to the radio through a RJ45 connector. So maybe a cable with RJ45 male connectors on each end would work? What do you think? Thanks.

You'll need to have the right pinout on both ends.

@@KennethFinnegan Thanks. I found an easy way to do it, without having to fabricate any cables, as described in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIaWiqKMl7iLhZI

Get rid of the double copy ... use split PL/DCS tones ... you only listen to the repeater, so you won't hear the input conversation. Easy.

Would love to find a simplex controller that can output to a second radio on a second frequency. There would still be a delay but retransmission would occur after the incoming transmission was received.

Can you just plug an ethernet cable into both ends or will that not work? I don't really need to be able to use a mic on the repeater.

Ridiculous? We have one with tone access that makes it so much easier to coordinate moving off to a repeater or simplex. And... You don't hear constant chatter except for folks paging each other.

Kenneth question to run a Maxtrac 45 watt radio what amp power supply do I need to run the radio to the best performance? Thank You
@KennethFinnegan
@KennethFinnegan 4 жыл бұрын
My general rule of thumb is to at least double the power of the radio for the power supply. So 45W divided by 13V is 3.5A, so I generally reach for at least a 7A power supply.

Yes you can just use a cat 5 or ethernet cable. Silly to "make" your own.
