This video demonstrates how to correctly apply a tourniquet to a patient's arm for venipuncture. A tourniquet would first be applied to assess the arm for a desired vein. When one is located, the tourniquet is removed. The phlebotomist will then prepare the supplies, cleanse the draw site, reapply the tourniquet, and perform the venipuncture procedure.
Please note, I am wearing my clean lab coat. Never wear the lab coat that is used to process specimens in the lab when walking outside the lab. This is an infection control precaution.
