I just did this but I started from Siem Reap, bus to PP then HCM. Then did it all again coming back to Siem Reap. It was an insane schedule but I'm so glad I did it. What an experience.

I would like to ask if there is a bus from Phnom Penh back to Ho Chi Minh? If I have applied for a multiple-visit visa for Vietnam online, will I still be charged for the visa? Because we are passing through a land border crossing, is it possible that the border customs/immigration officers are off duty? For example, if I arrive at night and cannot clear customs, I have to stay one night near the border and wait until the next morning before I can enter the country? ! Thanks!

No, I had to get an evisa. Simple though. Apply online and then bring a print out of the approval. Cost is about 25 usd. Sara was born in England, so didn't need one.
