One of the bands that held a large sway on my direction in life. I'll always be grateful to them for that. Of course, you could say that we just grasp onto what we relate to but sometimes it's hard to find that raw expression that we really can grasp in the first place. It anchors and binds us to being human in the moments that we feel like it slips away. I doubt it'll ever be seen, but still-- forever grateful you've taken the path that you have.

I'm always interested in how bands choose to interpret their songs acoustically, and I really like their decision to go "softer" with "Countdown" rather than emulate the bold effect of the studio version as much as possible. This was beautifully pleasant surprise.

This version is definitely in the Key of F#. As previously posted he is in Open G tuning. If you want to play along in standard tuning, just put a capo on the 4th fret and play D, G, Em, and A. If you need more specifics on the chord changes, google Simply Pumps and email me.

PHOENIX-Countown Countdown unless you're juvenile let's go God bless your miss somewhere We're sick for the big sun It doesn't matter what you did And if you did it like you been told True and everlasting that's what you want True and everlasting that's what you want Don't say no your breakfast tears are gone Resist or let go, you're borderline withdrawn Down, unlit from the bottom there is a misfit Better than it looks, better than it looks Better than it looks, better than it looks We're sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick We're sick for the big sun We rumble and trip, trip, trip, trip, trip, trip, trip I realize that too Hear the lonesome bell, is this knowledge? Ask forgiveness you know somewhere You're fixed to an atom It doesn't matter what you did And if you did it right let's go Cruel and everlasting that's what you want Cruel and everlasting that's what you want Don't say no your breakfast tears are gone Do you remember when 21 years was old? Down unlit does it matters that you care the less? Better than it looks, better than it looks Better than it looks, better than it looks We're sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick We're sick for the big sun We rumble and trip, trip, trip, trip, trip, trip, trip I realize that too True and everlasting, it didn't last that long... We're the lonesome, we're the lonesome yell True and everlasting, it didn't last that long True and everlasting, it didn't last that long... We're the lonesome, we're the lonesome yell True and everlasting, it didn't last that long We're the lonesome, we're the lonesome

I haven't sat down and worked out all the chords he is using on this version but I absolutely certain he is in open G tuning. DGDGBD. His Capo is on 4 so he is playing in Open B. I think the opening chord pattern is an F#. From low string to high string the opening chord is 3rd string 4th fret, 4th string 2nd fret, 5th string 3rd fret and 6th string 4th fret. This is a pretty common formation in open G tuning. Lift your finger off of the 2nd fret and slide the formation down two frets to get E.

The album version is in the key of B. The version they play at Coachella is one full step below that, and I think this one is one step further. The easiest way to learn the chords is to go to the coachella version, put a capo on the 5th fret, and try to follow the chord pattern, he only uses 4 chords. It starts out E, A, F#m (All while with the capo on 5th fret). At certain points he adds a B, you just have to follow the video, it's quite easy. You can transpose the chords to match this.
