Phoenix possesses the 10th largest metropolitan area in the United States, and almost epitomises many failings in America's transport network. Today, I compare it with the 10th largest metro area in the UK, Glasgow, and see if we can improve the city.

It has come to my attention that I have butchered the pronunciation of Tucson: I am very sorry about that!

despite phoenix being bathed in sunshine and glasgow being bathed in, well... rain, glasgow still manages to look 10x less depressing quite an achievement

With the news that Glasgow is getting a metro system (opening gradually within the next couple of decades) which is helping to further unify the the area under a system similar to other major cities in the UK and the rest of the world the gap between the 2 cities is only going to grow further.

If you want a nice downtown you go down to Tuscon. Maricopa County was designed as Florida West for retirees who never really wanted to leave their retirement community.

Your comments on Great Western Road were unexpectedly funny. It’s often a lot busier than that. I agree Glasgow‘s suburbs are a lot less miserable than many other cities’ suburbias. I think being hilly helps, those front gardens are much larger than in London suburbs but it’s also basically a necessity to get to the top of the hill and build the house on one level. Else you’d have a front door in the basement, though I know some houses are built that way. The side roads have smaller front gardens than shown here but it’s still much better than London‘s.

That’s possible, I didn’t really think of it.

Nice vid man, you make some very good points! But I have to ask, what is your problem with single deckers? 😂

They're not as enjoyable to ride on! This actually matters quite a bit when you're competing with ever more luxurious cars.

@@GWVillager I'm with ya, but it's a capacity vs demand thing I suppose Also I find some single decks to be fantastic, particularly eclipse 2s and versas for their comfort Plus I'm jsut a massive pulsar fan haha 😂

I don’t think it’s very fair to criticise Glendale for its lack of greenery compared to suburban Glasgow. The former is located in one of the most arid places in the world and the latter is extremely wet!

Yes, that is a very valid point. With hindsight, I think this was a rather poor and uneducated video overall, but I cannot control the decisions of the past!

Oh watching someone from the UK react to just looking at a North American city aside from the great few is.. embarassing. Even though I quite literally live a continent's width away from Phoenix we have a couple of the same issues though nowhere near the same degree (thank god we have a downtown from the times of early colonization else we'd be even worse). And can't help but agree - more beautiful buildings are better, tighter streets are better, and trees are awesome!

Actually, that may not be as ridiculous as it sounds. Third rail trains allow for far cheaper installation of electric infrastructure, which would be appealing.
