Never heard of or seen this lady before, but she does a wonderful job on this song. One of the Saddest Times Of my life when this became a hit. It played over & over & I sometimes had to turn it off to keep tears back. I never let it play if anyone was with me, only when alone. I was 19 in 1978! This really brought back some memories & I have to admit the tears came back also. Don’t know who you are but you are One Beautiful Lady! What a Fantastic Job! Thank You So Much 🥺😔❤️🙏 Yes... she was my first True Love, at least I thought so. A very light miscommunication ended that relationship! It crushed me for that entire summer 😊💕🥰 Thank You! I often wonder about her! 🙏

I've just discovered this version. Francesca's done a god job - she has a nice singing voice and plays the guitar solo very well. She says she was touched by hearing Dolly Parton sing this song. She did indeed, as did another great country artist, Tim McGraw. But it should never be forgotten that the original version was by Randy Vanwarmer in the 70s. Randy also wrote the song. ♥♥♥

Played beautifully with passion. I relate to this song in that it is how I felt about my mother leaving me as a very young child. Leaving me to be fostered around a variety of guardians and different schools in different States. Always wondering why I did not matter and watching other children with envy as their mothers doted and cared about them with love and affection. It was all inexperience for me but needed just the same. However I survived without it. That's why I relate to this song. It is so true for me.

Reminds me so much of my situation. 1980 my ex left us for a more exotic guy. I raised 3 boys and 2 daughters on my own. Oldest boy is V.P. of a major insurance company, oldest daughter is a RN, next daughter is a supervisor for the company that makes filters for the space station, next boy is an area supervisor for a major oil company, next boy is an mechanical design engineer. I felt devastated when she left however it turned out for the best. each child turned out OK and now I am free as a bird.

I love DP & her voice but to me, Nobody sang it better than he did, & I remember it well as I fell hard for someone for the first time in my life, & it didn’t last but just for a few short dates. Miscommunication did it & I felt bad as I didn’t go after her like I should have. I only wonder whatever happened to her, but back to what you said... Nobody in my mind did it better than Randy. But this lady (Franseca) does it as nicely or better than any others following Randy’s Version! 🥰👌🙏

I love the sound of the mandolin on this track! The vocal was beautifully passionate as this song requires! Randy's voice sounded more heartbroken. This one almost sounded as if it could have been a rendition by Helen Reddy. I love the way Francesca ended with the acoustic guitar outro!

Dolly Parton covered Randy Vanwarmer's song - not the other way around as a lot of people mistakenly believe. While the song can be considered a "break-up song," I read a number of years ago that Mr. Vanwarmer actually wrote the song reflecting back about his father's sudden death -- when Randy was only a teenager. Apparently, he was still dealing with the loss of his Dad when he and his girlfriend broke up. All those undealt with feelings of grief broke through to become this wonderful song.

Lorenzo August 2022 I have been grappling with a divorce my wife initiated. Although I do not have a criminal record, I have had some mental health issues. She used legal means to evict me from our home. She has not been courteous enough to even discuss her actions with me. I still have feelings for her despite the terrible treatment. Beautiful rendition of this beautiful song. I grew up listening to so many beautiful song from LP's my dad had bought during the late 60s and early 70s. So I grew up listening song like this (even though this song is from the late 70s, it is, I feel in the same vein as the other songs), as/and the Dr. Zhivago kinds. Thanks for this beautiful memory! Wish I could play the guitar and sing as beautifully as you.
